10 bolt check... hows everyones rear holding up?
To all, did you keep it, kill it, or replace it before you killed it? What kind of tourture did/is it endur/ing?
My stock SS did fine with street driving and a few good burn outs every now and then to entertain the passengers. Although, the posi was a little slippy, on/off unless I was in a perfect stright line. This iwas on a 55k SS SLP(?) rear. Held up that way until I sold it at 71k

mine just blew up about 2 months ago. i shredded al 6 teeth off of each spider gear, and chewed up the ring and pinion. it lasted fine until drag radials were put on the car

I been beating the crap out of it for the last 20k miles, track and everything and its still good and looks like new last time i took it apart. I will not put drag radials on it though, cause like SickWS6 said, thats usually their weekness. But i heard some hold up for a while. I am leaving mine till it blows up then ordering a moser 9"

I have ordered a new 9" that should be done this week. I am going from 3:23s to 3:89 gears. So, I can't wait to see what happens to my times 12.07 with my current 3:23 gears.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: 10 bolt check... hows everyones rear holding up?
I'm about to put my 6th one in the car today. This one was my fault........the pinion nut backed out (bad crush collar) and bad things happened. All the others were hard driving. With the $$ I've spent on 10 bolt rears I could have bought a 9" and taken the old lady out to eat at a NIIIIICE place. I'm building a 9" next month......putting gears in is getting old!!

Re: 10 bolt check... hows everyones rear holding up?
I've had almost every ratio under the sun in my car!
- factory 2.73's
- Richmond 3.73's (but I put back the 2.73's 'cause I had a BAD set of whiney 3.73's )
- Richmond 4.10's (this time the gears were quiet, and I was getting awesome track times to boot ). I have a pair of DR's for the car, but at the track it was hooking just as hard with the street tires?
- NOW, factory 3.23's, BECAUSE I broke the 4.10's while ROAD RACING the car on a track. 2 teeth sheared off the pinion. And keep in mind, that was behind the A4. I never had a problem doing the 1/4 mile or daily driving with the 4.10's. As well, I smoked the transmission on the road course, so now I have a T56 enroute.
BTW, I've currently got ~60k on the car.

It's McDonalds or nothing!!!!!!! I was wrong, it was not the pinion gear........it was the driveshaft. Now I get to replace the DS and the gears. Ahhh, the fun of owning a 10 bolt. Lucky for me I have a 94 camaro that I just pulled the engine out of.

Re: 10 bolt check... hows everyones rear holding up?
My posi and 4.10's went out last summer, had them replaced with Richmond 4.10's and an Eaton unit. Whiny, but still holding together last I checked.
