I'm thinking 4.10s will be too much gear for that Grand Prix.

If the posi is original... Replace it.

not for nuttin, but the ring and pinion is even smaller with the 4.10s than the already too small stokers.

just food for thought

What are your goals for the car? If you plan of hitting some high numbers and plan to attend the track regularly, I would forget about installing gears in a stock rearend and save up for something more durable. If not, then some fresh gears and a new posi in your existing 10-bolt would be alright.

for right now i just want a fun weekend car and maybe attend the track every now and then. eventually when i get my better job i'd like to push some high numbers with a built motor and a rear mounted turbo. do you still think 4.10's are too much? i have a friend who will install them for cheap. i also need a clutch so do you think the spec stage 3 would be alright?

4:10s are perfect for M6's. It is the most popular gear set on M6's on the board. If your posi works well then I wouldn't replace it. Get you a stud girdle for a little added insurance.

You dont have a lot of mods, so your 10 bolt should be ok as long as it is cared for. Then again enough good traction can brake it. There is no definative amount of abuse it can take, but if it is working for you, then stick with it till it brakes or is about to brake.

I don't think 4.10s are too much for a manual, some people even decide to put them in on their automatics.

The Stage 3 is probably more than you need, but that isn't a bad thing. I'd go Ram just because I've heard too many complaints about the Spec chattering.

Forget the gears and start saving for a real rearend. The better the clutch, the more strain on the rear. Add some tires that can hook and the lifetime of that rear is greatly reduced. Or do you drive your car like grandma does?

i noticed that the RAM clutches are considerably cheaper than the specs. do they hold up just as good?

I think he will need more then tax return money for one of those! His mods would put him around the 300rwhp range. He should be good on his 10 bolt for a while.
