I did see that page with your car on it before. I also saw the pic from NED's in 99 (I think it's your avatar) of you doing a burnout.
Regardless, good luck to all this year in points!!
IHRA and NHRA? There are many different opinions. My take is simple:
NHRA is a larger and more professionally oriented organization (in regards to drag racing) with the big names and TV coverage for professional level events. IHRA is part of a larger organization, but internally the resources are much smaller than NHRA, and although IHRA tries to put up a comprable show on a professional level, their strength is in the sportsman and bracket categories.
From the perspective of track sanctioning I really don't see much difference. The safety standards and event procedures are very similiar with the most notable difference being the ET breaks for major rule changes: What happens in NHRA at 11.99 happens in IHRA at 11.49 for example.
I do believe the Summit series for ET racers in IHRA is extremely good and I think the general personalities of the tracks in our division is more geared toward the little guy racers than with the NHRA tracks, in general.
I also think that IHRA is run like a family business from the top down. This is good in that all of us little guys can feel important and I enjoyed visiting the staff at IHRA headquarters in Norwalk last season, but there is a catch to a family business in that often there are compromises made in terms of business decisions. That is true with IHRA.
I give Bill Bader a lot of credit for building a good organization but I believe IHRA has reached a point where a higher level of organization is necessary for it to compete with NHRA. BAder is brilliant but I think he needs to step back and allow a few other people to take the reins.
Anyway, in a perfect world, IHRA and NHRA would merge like the AFL/NFL or ABA/NBA and form a true series of competition on a professional level. This would elevate the sport as a whole to compete successfully with other major sports. I don't believe NHRA will ever take that step without being pushed and I think IHRA needs some executive level horsepower to make that happen.
