Whats Good Time for the 1/8th

Hello, last night was my first time ever at the local track here in Florida. Got to say that it's real exciting. It was humid out and hot though.

What I realy want to know though If my times are decent for my car. I have a Stock 2002 Trans Am A4(2.73 I know they suck) Convert. I know its not the fastest LS1 ever built but I think its faster than what I drove it.

2.3453 60ft
6.1948 330ft
9.3399 1/8th
79.06 mph

Those were my best times. When I took off I floored it (no wheel spin) but it ran all the way up to red line in first then it seemed like I hit the rev limiter or something and it would drop the RPMs down in second. What the heck am I doing wrong?

For a rough comparison to 1/4-mile time/speed, multiply:

ET X 1.555

9.3399 x 1.555 = 14.5

MPH X 1.25

79.06 x 1.25 = 98.8 MPH

Wow, thats pretty slow.

It was hot and humid. And were I raced at there was smoky and hazy due to all the brush fires all over Florida. Could that be part of it?

For some reason when it shifted to 2nd I lost so much uuumph. I had to wait to it got above 4000 to feel like it was hauling again in 3rd.

I have two friends with Z's that ran recently in the same weather you discribed and they ran much much slower then what they normally do. in about the same time range you ran.

and thats an LT1

STEVE, look at my reply to you in the kill section. You need to find out first if you actually ARE hitting the rev limiter or not.

Your LS1 should be loads faster than what you are reporting.

Don't listen to them^^^^^^^^. It's not uncommon at all for a 2.73 geared convertible to run 14 flat in good weather. What you ran in the heat and humidity is pretty normal too.
The problem is that the vert is heavy and add to that a 2.73 rear gear with automatic trans and your bogging to about 250 feet out then it starts to come alive, shifts and hits second and bogs again.
If you did nothing to that car but changed to 3.73 and added a good converter it would run middle 12s.

I do feel as if it were bogging down but one other thing I can't understand...

Every car that should be at about the same ET were running about the same times. There was a 2006 mustand GT that ran 9.5 and a 96 vette that ran 9.4 along with a 350z that had bolt ons that ran 9.2. not to mention a Ferrari 360 that ran an 8.9. I know it could be the driver but none of those times were off of a a bad run.

I'm with Al. 2.73 geared cars around here run 13.8/13.9 in the 1/4 in decent weather.

Heat and humidity are a major factor in your et. To me your times seem about right for YOUR car. Every car and every day are different. Don't sweat it.

Dang it, this is the first I ever heard of a stock LS1 doin 14s. Leave it to me to to buy a slow one.

Well I'm was gonna get a Magnaflow exhaust but now im thinking gears. Will they help my times that much to get in the mid to high 8's. I'm on a limited budget( I mean im cheap) but I dont want to have to get a stall too. Should I go with 3:42 or 3:73s. Gas is milege is a concern. I just want it to sound good and run with the rest of the 4th gens. Thanks guys.

Maybe I'm off base, but a 2.3 sixty foot time is horrible. I am guess you were not hooking up. If that is the case then some drag radials and hopefully a well prepped track should lower your ET by .3-.5 seconds... Then you have a reasonable baseline from which to consider further modifications. With a 2.3 sixty foot time you were spinning enough to lower your mph too.

if you were not spinning then you have other issues to consider such as track elevation, temp/humidity, and basic tuneup items such as plugs and wires, air filter, fuel filter, synthetic oil to consider before you start making changes that are more costly.

You did say it was your first time at the track, right?

Yes, it was the first time at a track and no I was not spinning. It took off like a bat out of hell and then shifting into 2nd it killed my RPMs(It seemed to hold out on 1st to long).

The track is in south Florida so it's not elevation but it was hot, humid and smokie.I don't think it could be maintence, my car only has 25k on it.

I'm goning to have to go back in different conditions and play around with it.

2.3453 60ft
nuf said.
you were spinning your *** off.
Slicks would be the first thing you should buy, a mod that can be switched back to street quickly, wouldnt affect your gas mi. then go from there
my 70z has a 1.26 60ft. i run 1/8th only. 5.36/142mph
low 9's et is what my friends z28 would run
and if i run 9's the first time i take my 93z out im going to jump it into the track's dumpster.
