Don't forget to stress that street racing is not drag racing. Hollywood and the media have given drag racing a bad name because of street racing and it's hard to dig out of the hole from bad publicity.

The intro in a NHRA rulebook is about all you need to say about drag racing.

A high percentage of drag racing is bracket racing. Even Stock/SuperStock cars if they're not up against another car in their same class will only be in a bracket race. As nice as it is to make your vehicle faster, speed means nothing in a bracket race. Anybody can spend lots of money to go fast but if you can't cut a good light or have a vehicle that runs consistant, you won't win any bracket races.

Drag racing isn't always about who has the fastest car. The majority of all the races I've won or lost have been by errors. My last race I gave away a first round from too much wheel spin off the line. I knew I lost before I reached the 60' mark. Other times you get an easy win when your opponent red lights or breaks out. These are all gimmee wins. When I cut a good light and run close to my dial and lose, I go and congratulate the winner because he had to work hard to beat me. I didn't give anything away easily. To me those are the best wins/losses.

Sorry I don't have a 2003 rulebook handy but in my 2002 rulebook it's on page 10 and 11. I'm sure those 2 pages could be discussed for 10 minutes.

The title of the page is "The basics of drag racing" What is a drag race?

http://www.nhra.com has more than enough information....

Actually, go here: http://www.nhra.com/aboutnhr/history.html
And read the links on the left for the basics, history, and you will have enough info to talk fo an hour...
