What size slick will fit??
What size slick will fit??
I was wondering what size slicks you guys are running.I'm headed to the Pontiac Race weekend in Norwalk Ohio and wanted to know what size to get. I was thinking like 28/10/15...somewhere in there.I'd run a 15in rim.My dad says i should run like a 26/9/15 but i want something big

You don't want any more tire than you need. Bigger, either wider or larger in diameter, means more HP loss.
With the times in your signature, a 26" tire should be fine. A 28" tire just barely fits in the wheel opening, weighs a lot, and will kill your rear axle ratio - like dropping from a 4.10 to a 3.80 compared to a 26" tire. If you feel you need a little larger tire to keep the RPM down in the traps, go to a 27", but a 28" would appear to be overkill. I would say a 15x10 wheel with a 26x10.5-15 (you could get away with a 15x8 wheel) or 26x11.5-15 ET Street or QTP.

Re: What size slick will fit??
Thanks..Yea now I will probably go with a 26"/10"/15...he also said the 26 will launch me harder then like a 28.With a 15x8 wheel...would that be pinching the sidewalls in to much?
Re: What size slick will fit??
I just switched from a 26 to 28 this past weekend.
I had a 26x10x15 and went to a 28x10x15
The 28 is alot bigger than the 26, weighs a little more than the 26, I had to trim the back plastic piece near the rear of the tire. I have approx 1/2 clearance on one side and the tire slightly rubs it going down the track.

Re: What size slick will fit??
Mickey Thompson makes a 26" x 11.5" x 15" Et Street. This fits perfectly on a 15" x 10" rim with a 7.5" backspace in your wheelwell. The tread is 10". Because the tire is DOT approved the width measurement is the sidewall. I ran these up until I got my strker and was very pleased. Once I installed the stroker I was running 11's and since I race street and the ET break is 12.00 I went up to the 28" size to slow down my ET.
If you get the ET Streets get the proper rim size to match and use tubes and rim screws as recommended ny the manufacturer.

Re: What size slick will fit??
One thing to keep in mind.... just because a tire is labeled as a "28" doesn't mean it is 28" in diameter.
A 28x11.5-15 ET Street is only 27.6". A 28x9.0-15 ET Drag is only 27.3". A 28x11.5-15 QTP is shown in the specs as 28.0", and fit in my stock wheel opening with no problem, other than moving the axle back about 1/4" to allow the tire to clear the front of the wheel opening when it grew at trap speeds over 125MPH. When I mounted a set of 28x10.5-15W's, shown in the specs as 28.1", they had to be way bigger than the QTP's because I ended up taking almost 1.5" off the leading edge of the bumper cover, and hammering the sheet metal behind it.

Re: What size slick will fit??
Well I got a set of 26x10x15 MT ET Drag. Now i just have to get a set of rims...any good suggestions...I've heard a rim called an XP rim is great cuz its flat on the inside and you dont have to worry about your brake calibers...but i also heard thats on the WS6 models....

I'm doing a gear change (Hopefully next week) to get back some of the RPM's that I lost. I'm moving to a 4.10 from 3.73. I lost about 400RPM in high gear, it's only trapping about 5900 through the traps. Just amazing on how much tire growth is going on.
