trunk mount batt kill switch problem
trunk mount batt kill switch problem
ok. this is part 2 rear mount battery problems i guess. i got the ford solenoid and have that all wired up right. i have the starter going to the one side, then on the other i have my accesoires and a 1/0 cable that runs to one side of my switch. the other side of my switch i have my alternator (2 gauge) and my battery (3/0). on the correct post on the ford solenoid i have the ignition "hot" wire. i have even grounded the ford solenoid.
my problem is this. i have a bad ground somewhere i think. i go to put the negative cable on the battery and the darn thing wants to start welding stuff together. sparks like fire show. was there a ground that needed to be moved that i missed out on doing? i have the ground cables. in the rear the battery negative is on the innner fender, bolted onto the one piece of metal that sticks out for the spare. it has always worked for me in the past.
maybe, does the "s" side of the solenoid need a ground? what am i missing?

Start disconnecting positive wires one at a time. Start with the hot wire to the alternator. If the ground still sparks then reconnect that hot wire and start pulling the switched wires at the solenoid one at a time until you find out which one is the ground wire connected to a positive. If the wire that you find is supposed to be a power wire then it's pinched or rubbed through to ground somewhere. Check to make sure your connections at the master switch are not touching ground. Simple electrical troubleshooting. Gee I wonder why so many cars burn to the ground because of poor wiring.
The wire going to the starter shouldn't be a problem since it doesn't become hot until the solenoid is activated.
