Traction on the street VS. track

Okay..well one day when our local 1/8 mile track is open, and i have some free time i really really wanna go down there and see what me and my car can do. I was just wondering though..my tires i have now are sh!tty, and there lookin pretty worn, so traction isn't the greatest. My car has the 2.73's, so traction isnt as big of a problem as some other cars, but i still spin alot on the street launching hard from a stop. I was wondering, is the track much different than the street?? (sorry i've never been)..Is it sticky enough that with the 2.73's, and crappy tires, i wouldnt get too much wheel spin?? Or am i just gonna spin as much as on the street? Also, does anyone know about what a 99 Z28 all stock..with the 2.73's will run?? Just an estimate..i'm guessing low 9's???

from what i hear the strip is alot better than the street. thier is not dirt or debrit and it is flat perfectly flat so you will get all the grip that your tires allow. but i am gonna pop my cherri on wed, ill tell you when i get back that night how the track is

tracks are not perfectly flat.

anyways, u will need to spin a little bit in the burnout box to let all the stone and stuff off ur tires and then u stage. i would ease down on the throttle off the start and then hit it at wot.

i don't know what ls1's run in the 1/8, so i can't help u there.

tip- don't do a big smoky burnout on street tires. it doesn't help u. street tires are not designed to get hot and sticky from a burnout, drag radials and slicks are.

I actually think the track I go to gives me less traction than on the street. some of the roads around here are just great for traction. I know I NEVER spun so much going from 1st to 2nd at on the street as I did at the track. Although on the street I never really launch it as hard as I do on the track. most likely depends on the track.

It's pretty early in the year right now, but once the racing season gets cranked up there will be alot of rubber that gets laid down on the track. This should help your traction issue, I get alot more traction at the track. I won't even try to race anybody on the street with my stock GSC's, they just spin.
