Traction problems.

I just went to the track this weekend for the first time with my new cam (gm 847), anyway. the car runs very very strong, but I have very very poor traction and I'm hitting my rev limiter as well anyway heres the E.T.

60 2.2
1/8 8.3 @ 87 mph
1/4 12.56 @ 112.8 mph

I was using M/T sportsman pros (26 x 9.5 x 16') @ 17 psi and the suspension is stock except for boxed lowers.

If I could get this thing out of the hole better it would fly.
I did manage to pull one 1.98 60 footer, but I hit the rev limiter hard in each gear so I only managed a 12.68 @ 11.2 on that pass.

Any thoughts , ideas, or advise?

If you've only got moded stock LCAs, I'll assume you're running a 10-bolt, correct? What about a front swaybar? Is the car lowered? Lots of wheelhop?

I would try the following (or a combination):
-Replace the Sportsman Pros w/ some 10.5" ET Streets or Quick Time Pros
-grab some relocation brackets for you control arms (pretty much necessary for a lowered car)
-take off the front sway bar
-look into an aftermarket torque arm and/or subframe connectors

That should be a good start.

When are you hitting the rev limiter?

You hav an auto..... Is it shifting like an auto or do you have a manual valve body installed? Hitting the rev limiter could well be an indicator of needing a tranny rebuild.

Traction is another deal. ET Streets would certainly help, as well as looser shocks with a minimum of 12" of travel up front to help with the weight transfer at the launch and removing the front sway bar. I would start there and then add/subtract parts as needed.

Thanks for the replies guys,

I have the swaybar in place now, plan on removing it the next time.

Yeah its the stock 10 bolt with 3.73 Gm gears in it.

I was hitting the rev limiter just as it passed the 6000 mark in each gear, I had my eyes on the tach and the track to see exactly where it was hitting it at, reved fine up to there. If I let it shift itself it shifts about there but never does the limiters thing. The valvebody is stock, I just have a 3000 vigilante and cooler as far as tranny mods go. (it was rebuilt about 20 thou ago).

There was no wheel hop just a noticeable shhhhh sound from the tires spinning until I would lift and reapply the gas.

I heated up the tires really well, but it didnt seem to help at all.

My car is not lowered , it just has the stock WS 6 springs and shocks, would relocating brackets help me any? I have a poly T/A mount I was going to slap in , will it do anything? Also the car is a fat pig at 3700 # (plus or minus a cheeseburger )

Forgot to add, I had the same cam in for a month now with the old tune (for a 230/236 and the 24# injectors) I added a new flash because I added 30# injectors, and before I could hold the gears to 6500 rpm no problem when I went out testing it out on the country blacktops. So I'm pretty sure its the rev limiter that got put back in on the retune, I'll just have to confirm it.

I had a set of M/T Sportsman Pro's. They really don't hook very well. Did everything I could to get them too, but they never would. I've been using BFG DR's since, but ET Streets or QTP's work well too.

It could also be the track prep holding you back, but more than likely it's the tires, or a combination of both.

If your car isn't lowered LCA brackets aren't really going to do anything for you. The whole purpose of them is to obtain the correct LCA angle after the car has been lowered.

A Hypertech programer is all you need to raise the rev limiter and adjust for different size tires. But with the cam and everything you have you really need a good dyno tune. The limiter and tire size can be set wherever you want it.
