My advice would be no clutch dropping. If its a stock disk it will survive a good amount of slipping. If you are going to the track preload the clutch a bit then feather it out. Once you are moving get off the clutch and into the gas. Should survive for a while.

Shock is what kills 10 bolts. Hard 1-2 shift on the crappiest of street tires can break one.

Just slip the clutch some and keep the wheel hop to a minimum and it will live. I have been running 4.30's for almost 2yrs and the past year with a 175shot "dry" on the stock 10bolt and the only thing that has gone out on me is the torsen limited slip (worm gear took a dump) after quite a few mid to high 1.7's and more low 1.8's than I can remember. That is on 17" nitto DR's. The gears look like the day they came out of the box.

Just run a clutch that you can slip smoothly and enjoy! I run a RAM PowerGrip HD with a 300 series disk.......it holds very well with my cam only, nitrous + all the bolt-ons M6. Awsome clutch!

My torsen had 70,000 miles on it and the 4.30's have 20,000 + miles on them. I plan on taking the 4.30's out and replacing them with 3.73's so I can quit shifting to 5th at the track on the spray.

I blew my 4.10 Motive gear on the street.. 383, 6 speed and Nitto extreme drag. You could get away with it, but not in the long run.

When, not if.

The question is when will it break, not if it will break.

It isn't the tires that are too "harsh" as you put it, but the launch. The shock of the launch is what reduces the lifespan. In other words, every time you hook the risk is increased. I used to get about 400 passes out of the stock 109 bolt before it would go boom. I did that twice. I had BFG drag radials, TA cover, 3.73's, Auburn Pro posi, and some crush sleeve thing (I'm not too technical......), and I went through this twice. After about 300 passes on the second rebuild I bought a 12 bolt and have not had a problem since.

Yea, your also on a auto too. Why could GM just stick with the 8.8" rear when they were building 4th gens

i got the Zexel posi,4:11's, TA cover w/ Stud Kit, and "solid Pinion Spacer" (crush sleve like u said).. I hope it holds!!!!

Well, in fairness to GM the stock rear is perfectly adequate for a stock motor on street tires on an un-prepped surface.
