Tires = drivetrain question??
Tires = drivetrain question??
I'm hoping this is still considered drivetrain related. I'm ordering the 12 bolt next week, and picking up a used set of convo pros with tires. The rears have nearly new Nitto DRs on them now. I'm looking to replace them. I'm leaning toward the Hoosier Quick Time Pros, or ET Streets. Looking for opinions on what you guys consider the best street slick. Best hook at the track while still maintaining tread life on the street. Car is a weekender, not a daily driver. Also, the rims are 15 x 8s. How tall a tire should I be running? I'm going with 4.10s in the rear and may be running a little juice down the road so I'm thinking I need a little taller tire. What do you think. BTW, car is an M6.
Thanks

As far as your question goes, the answer is none of the above. QTP's and ET Streets are race tires. They are technically street legal due to their having "tread". But of course they don't have tread. They are identical to full slicks except for some very narrow grooves.
Why not use them on the street?
1) very rapid wear
2) flimsy side wall - brush a curb and the tire is history, will be unstable in an emergency manuver which involves rapid direction change or any hard cornering
3) slick as snot in any water
If you lived a couple of miles from the track and drove there very cautiously it's one thing. Otherwise, get a street tire for the street. The best compromise is a drag radial. Goodyear and Nitto make sizes that will work well on 4th gen rim sizes. The people who use them can best answer which is better.
Also, are the Convo Pros a street wheel? I'd sure check on that before using them. A wheel which collapses is no fun whatsoever.

Ya, they are the street convo pros. The rears have Nittos on them now so I will probably just leave them. Heres a pic of the rims on the guys car: http://www.cofba.org/users/faztlt1/9...a/DSC00138.JPG
