Tips - Looking to improve E.T.
Tips - Looking to improve E.T.
I am really disappointed by my E.T. You can look at my sig. to see my times and my mods. Can anyone give me some tips as to tire pressure, launch techniques, shift points and whatever else you can think of? Also, any estimates on what I SHOULD be running? FYI- I run street tires. I am also planning on getting SFCs and LCAs soon because I know that is a weak point on my car. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.
Re: Tips - Looking to improve E.T.
Off memory, I believe that I was pretty consistant with low 2.2's. What should I expect with a good launch on street tires and how would you recommend getting there?
Re: Tips - Looking to improve E.T.
kind of a rule of thumb is that each tenth you can take off your sixty will equate to almost two tenths in the quarter. Just practice your launches, work on getting that 60ft down to a 1.9 or 1.8.
Re: Tips - Looking to improve E.T.
I'm looking for launch techniques. Have any? RPM to launch from, letting out clutch technique?? And the 1.9 or 1.8 60' times you mentioned, could that be expected on street tires? What psi in the tires (I ran BFG KDW at about 22 or so psi)?
Re: Tips - Looking to improve E.T.
Your tire pressure is too low. Unlike bias ply race tires, street radial tires should be run at a normal pressure, maybe just a bit towards the low end of the normal range. If you can cut sub 2.0sec 60' times on street radials with an M6, you are doing good, that's a reasoanble goal. How to do it? Practice, practice, practice. In general, you are going to want to come out at fiarly low revs (1,500-2,000) and slip the clutch while gradually rolling on to the throttle in first. What works best will depends, at least partially, on track condition. Be sure you line up "in the groove".

Re: Tips - Looking to improve E.T.
is that realy true? 1 tenth off the 60ft can be almost 2 tenths off the quarter mile time? i cant see how that can be true, that would mean that if i can pull a 1.6 60 ft time i would be runing mid 12s whereas with my 2.3 60ft i ran a 13.8?
