Wow, 3300lbs! Need to really lighten the car up now.
I wish it was 3400lbs, that's a more easier goal for us LT1's folks than the LS1's

Talking Jenny Craig

Folks get ready for "Hooptie TA"!!! I think I can drop 220Lb to get down to 3340, but I'm sure the car will be missing a body panel or two... seriously. I've already got the usual weight drops plus K-member, A-arms, CF drive shaft, skinnies... all that junk. Without honestly tearing my STREET CAR apart I can't make 3300. Oh well, I'll just count on the LS1 folks breaking down... victory through reliability.

The way the rules are now,my 3500lb street car would have to run with the big dogs.I dont see much of an incentive for me to consider making the trek.

I have dfi,i will have a cut cowl to clear the throttle body, and i have a stock bottom end LT1 that will be solid roller/heads.

Steve how long did it take you to get to Etown?

Dirk, Baton Rouge to E-Town was a 25 hour drive. It was actually a really nice trip especially from Virginia through Alabama. I made the trip back in one shot... by myself. If you make the trip you'll be running at one hell of a hooking track. It's about 45 minutes from where I live.
Yep Ken we'll have a time trying to get close to that weight. The ONLY reason I can even come with in 30lb of it is I still have a 10 bolt. Poor Tim is really screwed by this 3300 min weight. Hell I'm actually pissed at the extent I have to gut my TA to get to a competative weight.

The rules are against my setup. Im forced into pro outlaw.
I'm swapping to a converted 4 barrel intake and will have to cut the cowl to clear the Tbody.

O well, maybe next year when i decide to make the car not so street friendly, then maybe i will come down and play.

Thumbs down

Well Dirk looks like I'll be LT1 #2 to bail out of the race. I thought about what all I'm going to have to remove from my TA just to get with in 40 lb of the min weight. It's just not worth it to me. I truly need to be down to 3300 to have any real chance at some $$.
I have a heads & cam street car, not a stripped race car. In addition I'll be driving the car to and from the track for the race. The items I need to remove to loose weight will prevent me from driving the car on the road. Oh well may be 2004 will be different.

sark what needs to be done is people to post their thoughts...ls1tech is trying to form a series of races which include the lt1's. Participation is what they want and what is needed...so your input or any other f-body owner needs to voice an opinion for rule structure. It may not affect this one race but it very could well affect rules for any type of series that mostly likely will happen down the road..

Yep it must be nice, aluminum block & composite intake. LT1's are at a 70lb disadvantage from the get go with the iron block and alum intake. It's a simple fact and has fallen on deaf ears. I'll leave it at that.

70lbs huh. There are lots of heavy LS1 cars out there too actually. Take off the front sway bar, get some drag wheels all around, take out the back seats, spare tire/jack, and what does that equal to? Just come out and race and have some fun, that is what it's all about anyways. Even if you did think you had a chance to win your class there is still no gaurantee that it will happen. A lot of top racers will be there and should be lots of good competion. Last year I made the trip just to be a spectator and had a great time.

The point being and noted is the LS1's are lighter from the get go. 70lbs does not seem like alot but it is for some of us trying to get down to the 3300 lb min. weight.

I think the weight rules for QS class should be 3400 lbs it's a middle road for everyone.

SAR2K - I guess you can always come out in play in the brackets. If you want to see what a 3300lb would look like stop buy and see the car, It won't be pretty but it will be down there on weight. For me, this is not my daily driver, so it's nothing for me to strip us much as I can off this car to get to this weight, I just hope the revise it to 3400 lb instead, but it looks like there mind is made up.

In my formula thta ammounted to a 3530 race weight before the 9" and role bar. Add 85 lbs for the bar...50 lbs for the 9"...then I have to get rid of roughly 350 lbs lbs to reach race weight. I had to loose 70 lbs last year just to make 3500 race weight and i ran without an alternator and charged my battery between round to make that. My car is at about 3470 right now and it has no ac, no bumber supports, no carpet insullation, running a y-pipe and a bullet muffler(no cat back), k-member/lower control arms all alot of other little thing removed. I think I can make 3400ish without totally distroying the car. Anything belowe that and I either get into 1000 buck brake setups or 600 buck manual rack setups..or I start taking body panels off.
