There is no way i can afford HAL's but......

i need new front shocks, and since they have to be replaced, i figured i'd go with some drag shocks. What's a good, and somewhat cheaper set of drag shocks for a 4th gen that work well? I have KYB AGX 8-way's on the back and they seem to be ok. anyone running anything besides for HAL's? Thanks.

KYBs are a nice stock replacement shock up front ... but they won't give you any advantage as far as drag racing. You'll want a loser shock up front for that.

The KYBs are OEM equivalent at thier lowest setting and get progressively stiffer from there ... that's why they are good for the rear where you want it stiff. But no real help up front ...

Good Luck

are there any loser than those? I really want the nose to rise high and throw that weight to the back, but i can't swing $500 for springs and shocks for just the front anytime soon. What about competition eng? Do they make any? Are there any 90/10 shocks for a 4th gen?

you can get a pair of HAL shocks for less then 300 bucks new and you can always add the springs later

I could be mistaken, but I think Lakewood makes a 90/10 and a 70/30 front drag shock for 4th gens - but don't hold me to that. Just seems like I remember seeing it somewhere.

I was wondering the same thing, but I searched the Lakewood catalog and couldn't find anything for the 4th gens.

Where at? i saw them in summit and jegs for $180 a peice. after shipping and taxes, that'd be near $400.

I took a set of SLP Bilsteins that I got used for $105 shipped and sent them off to Bilstein of San Diego. $114 later I had a set of Bilsteins revalved to 90/10 including shipping back to me. It also cost me $20 to ship them down there. So for a total of $239 I had some front drag shocks.

I had Competition Engineering 3 way adjustable rear shocks and the Eibach Drag Launch Kit with the airbag in the right rear.

I cut a 1.51 short time with this setup on a stock Torque Arm and ran 10.78 @ 129mph. (Stroker and nitrous in a 3675lb car, T-56.)

However all I did the entire way down the track was wallow up and down. Total loss of momentum and wasted energy.

I had the shocks revalved to 70/30 and the same thing... Actually I cut my 1.51 on the 70/30's... I cut a 1.57 on the 90/10's.

I now have a full set of Hals (front and rear) with the new Shocker R series up front and the Hal front springs with V6 rear springs. I have yet to hit the track with this setup... Oh, also the Spohn adjustable heavy duty TA.

Good luck, but remember, 90/10 isn't always the best.
