Telestars, NEW INFO

For those of you who were wanting the Centerline Telestar rim because of the lack of a need for longer wheel studs, but didn't get them because of the funky backspacing, check this out.

I was reading the Fev 04 issue of Popular Hot Rodding, and there is an article on The Grape Of Wrath, mainly an exterior feature article. I have had this issue for almost a month now, and never noticed the caption of one picture which reads:

"....Centerline now makes the rears in a 5.5-inch back spacing thanks to our previous series in GM High-Tech Performance."

Sweet! Tucked in more and looking nicer!

Good deal!

last time I talked to Center line(last spring) they told me Drag racers were not there main target so they were not going to make any wheels other then what there target crowd(show and Rice) wanted. They said "If I wanted wheels to fit my car find some one else"..his EXACT word!

I have used CL wheels for 20 years but after that I dought I will EVER buy another set from them

I emailed Centerline to confirm the 5.5 inch backspacing. Unfortunately they said its NOT TRUE.

Hmmm, stupid magazines getting us all excited. It's letter time.

And InjectedSS, not everyone wants to run longer wheel studs making our street rims look like crap with those goofy things poking out. The Telstars are nice because they are a direct bolt on, just the rear wheels backspacing is a little on the weak side for our cars. Not everyone wants to be like you.

I know Im sorry, going fast and having a nice car isn't for everyone I forgot. That's why some people actually put the Weld Draglites on their cars

Funny, I didn't need bigger studs for my rear pro stars The front ones I did but I don't know what lugs your talking about. I run the long shank ones on mine and they don't stick out far by any means! But Im sure you knew that

Well, last I heard to actually pass tech, the threaded portion of the wheel stud has to protrude into the hex portion of the lugnut. Meaning on the welds you have to get the longer wheel studs, making them look rather dumb in my opinion when you put your street rims on the car and have to run an open ended acorn lugnut to secure the wheel properly.

But of course you knew that.

No I agree, I thought the same thing till I actually researched it and found closed end long shank lugs that fit perfectly on the longer ARP studs that Im running up front. No longer studs are required in the rear.

Really?!? I hadn't managed to find any. Got anymore info/pics?? That may sway my descision when it's time for drag wheels. Thanks for the info!

Yea I felt the same way man. Actually I had bought the centerlines for the front to begin with but then found out later that they didn't make a good size for the rear so I did some more investigating and found out that you CAN run the pro stars up front and use longer studs and not have to use those ugly open lugs.

I will snap some pics tomorrow and post them!

I heard the same thing Ellis. I'm happy with my Bogarts though. 8# front wheels...can't beat that with a stick.

OK here are the pics that I told you I would take.

You will see HERE the difference between the lugs I used for my ZR1 wheels vs the new long shank lugs that you have to use on the pro stars.

Now HERE you can see the long shank lug held next to the pro star wheel. Now HERE you can see how THICK that the pro star wheel is. This is where I was confused on because I didn't know they were this thick. That's why I thought that the long shank lugs would stick out soo far cause I thought that the wheels would be FLAT but they AREN'T as you can see! Now THIS is what they look like all mounted in. See told ya, can't even tell

Here are some pics of the clearance that you have with the stock studs and using a 5/16" spacer!
