Slipping the Clutch
Slipping the Clutch
I have been trying to learn how to launch the car better and have been keeping the tire pressure between 20-25 psi (17 inch kuhmo). I have no suspension mods (it is a 1LE tho) and was wondering how you guys slip your clutch (if at all), and how far out you seem to be before you can nail the gas. I have been trying to keep my rpms right around 2000 with a quick clutch slip, but I'm not sure if I'm rolling into the gas right, I think I'm doing it to quick. The best sixty I have been able to pull is 2.28 (which is down from a 2.5 on bald tires). If I take off my sway bar will I be able to just bolt it back in, it won't let the suspension become mis-aligned will it? I just know that if I can get my 20 ft in the 2.0 range I can run a low 13. Also, my best trap speed is 104.68 which seems crappy for all the mods I have, any suggestions?

2. don't slip the clutch on an early LS1 car unless you want to replace it. It WILL burn out easy.
3. unhooking the sway bar will have no effect on alignment. You can tale it off every track session and put it back on after with no ill effects.
Try this for launch (and don't give up after 1 or 2 times of it not working it takes practice) bring the revs up to about 1800 or so, on the 3 yellow get off the clutch pedal fast, but don't move the throttle, the tires will spin (if they don't you'll need to raise the rpm) but at the exact moment that the nose starts to drop and the tires quit spinning floor it. It took me probably a dozen attempts to get the feel for it but when I did it netted me 2.0x 60s pretty consistantly with no danger of harming the clutch.
Re: Slipping the Clutch
I was at the track and tried Al's technique and it works. So far I have cut a 2.11 60' on street tires. Your mph does seem low, I have the exact same lid and exhaust as you but without the headers and I am trapping 106.50. You should be trapping closer to 108 in my opinion. Picking up your 60' time will improve your MPH somewhat, but maybe something is off on your tune. If you can find a chassis dyno place that can tune your car, I'd do that. It's a far better plan than doing a mail order tune (Even though Bryan Herter's tunes are some of the best).
