Roll Bars for Convertables??

Does anyone know if there are any basic rules stating that you must have roll bars in a convertable if you go over a certain speed? I know tracks probably vary but I was just wondering if anyone had any info on the subject. Thanks.

NHRA rules specify that you need at least a 5 pt rollbar for 13.99 and faster with convertable. IHRA i believe is 13.49 (although closest IHRA track is 2.5 hours away).

Most people run a 6pt bar,for added rigidity, and if I have to climb over a bar,so does the passenger.

A fast convertible ought to have a bar just for the street, let alone the track. Properly done swingouts are legal and a huge plus on a street/strip car. Don't leave home without 'em, unless you are 4'10" and very limber

Both NHRA and IHRA require a "cage" at 10.99 or faster for 'verts. Any car requiring a roll bar need an SFI approved 5-point harness, mounted in accordance with the rules. You should get the rule book for the track you plan to run at to be sure you are legal.

One other thing, the way many people bolt in a bar is not legal or safe, though it isn't often checked. Properly done bolt-ins are safe, and legal. But they are just as much trouble to install as weld-in and I don't trust them as much. None the less, if you ever plan to remove the bar, bolt in is sure easier.

Ya outta put one in just for the... AAaahhhh look at that factor when the top is down.

NOTHING, in my humble opinion, looks bettter than a dropped top with a 6/8 point in it!
