Removing Torque arm for better traction?
Removing Torque arm for better traction?
Hey guys, I ran into this thread over at Ls1.com and I am wondering your guys opinions on what this guy has come up with. Think its a good Idea???

Those are classified as lift bars. They work like a real short unbraced ladder bar or the bottom half of a 4 link. Personally I wouldn't recommend them for all out drag strip use. That setup looks good though with the front height being adjustable but I'd still prefer a longer bar.
You have to think of how a diff will rotate under accelleration. Normally there's a LCA and a torque arm. The LCA doesn't do much except keep the diff square in the car. The torque arm does all the work when the diff is trying to spin around. By replacing the torque arm with the lift bars you now have 2 bars (LCA and lift bar)) below the centerline of the diff. Although it will keep the diff from rotating I can't see it transfering the same amount of force created by the diff rotation under accelleration as a good torque arm, ladder bars or 4-link system but the system will probably work. Over the last few decades, racers have come up with all sorts of ideas and gimmicks. Some are poor ideas and some are excellent. Caltracs is one of the excellent suspension ideas for the leaf spring cars.
I also like his rear brace system attached to the Ultimate rear cover.
