Guys with solid rollers in there 355's?

What size cam are you running, what rpm are you turning, and are you running a aftermarket shaft type rocker setup?

Hey Randy, I am sure Tim Herrington (95bird) will post to this. He has a VERY impressive solid roller 355 setup!

Most solid roller 355 guys are running cams in the mid 240s intake duration, and low 250s exhaust duration. I ran a 254/258 in my old SR 355. Tim is running a 255/260 I believe. His car idles well, and he says the driveability is good as well. My car drove fine with that cam.

I run a 255/263 656/628 on a 110 LS. I shift at 6900-7000. The car makes peak power at 6650ish and caries it out pretty good losing about 8 hp up to 7000. I run pro magnums 1.52 ratio.

Also running ported lt1 heads and do all the tuning through lt1 edit.

I shoudl see some 10s this year. Hopefully 10.8x at about 126. I've made alot of changes since the 11.03 @124 runs(about 0 to +200 da). This year In +1200 Da I was running 11.1x at 125 short shifting the car because of a high rpm studder that started at 6700 rpms(opti?). so I was shifting at around 6650ish...right at my peak hp... Thats not good for et.

You can check my web site for more details on the car if you want too.

Tim

Tim's car is definatly one of the most impressive 4th gens I have seen.....especially for what it has!

Tim, sell me that motor when you are finished with it.....I need one for my "other" car

Randy, I was running it right to 6900rpm. My car shuts off if I rev it over 7050 for some reason. Some people have this problem, others dont. I ran my solid roller 396 to 7000rpm as well.

Thanks, Jason

Tim, I saw your car at the Thunder Shootout this year, very impressive indeed. You were one of the few people I saw that did not need to do any major engine work between runs. Thats a solid car ya got there. I wanted to go over and meet you but didn't have a chance with all the things they had going on, but it was good to see your LT1 make a few passes with those LS1 bullies.

thanks for the compliments guys. Its a fun car and glad that all the work is paying off.

Jason...hmmmm...next project....hmmmm...lol. Honestly..this year I have alot of plans for the car to pick it up..or see if I can. Thinking of cam change, head change(lt4s to see if they are worth it), maybe do that intake thing weve been talking about jason. I'm gonna do it all one step at a time so I can track success. But first..as soon as my tranny gets back from liberty I'm gonna put this suckin in the 10.8 at 126 range if it kills me...lol

KC..you should have found me man. I enjoyed meeting lots of people. I actually got to meet jason but of all times when he found me to introduce himself it was about the only time over the weekend the car needed alittle maint(it threw my belt so had to charge the battery and hook belt back up). Sorry about that jason. Funny thing about that weekend is I was on a borrowed tranny. I was leaving soft on it and shifting soft. Also I was having a studder problem at high rpms that caused me to shift early(6650ish). If I was bangin gears and pushing the car I bet I could have snuck into the 10s that weekend..oh well. Oh..I was in a class I didn't belong in either..lol. My solid roller threw me in the same class as steve quin. I was racing, big cubed, solid roller, aftermarket intake, aftermarket computers, after market headed(some of em) freaking bad *** cars. Hey..I didn't qualify last so it was a good weekend and I beat almost all of the ls1s in class..heheheh.

Thanks for all the info Jason/Tim, you've been a big help, but I have a few more questions. First, do either of you think it would be beneficial to upgrade to a jesel/TD shaft mount rocker setup and second, what kind of lifters are you running. Thanks again guys.

I think that the upgrade would be a good investment. I'm actually thinking of doing it myself. Plus it will help with any rocker flex problems that you may run into. Man...I can't remember my lifters its been so long. I think they are comp cam lifters. Cam motion recommended them and I got them from cam motion so the guy that put my bottom end together installed them. Next time I pull the intake I will have to take a look again to refresh my memory..or I could go dig out my receipts...no idea where they are now though...lol.

No problem Tim, I do the same thing. If my money holds out I'd like to get the Jesel sportsman setup and run the x-endura, or whatever there called, lifters and a cam with similar specs to yours. I feel that a combination like this will work better with my current 4200 stall and allow me to gain a little more than what this combo would normally yield. Again, thanks and I'll be in touch with more questions I'm sure.
