Questions on what to do with a '67 Race Car
Re: Questions on what to do with a '67 Race Car
1990 454. Last year of the Mark IV engines. All the older BBC parts will fit with no problems however the heads are considered peanut port truck heads and have no performance potential. They're designed for low rpm torque, not high rpm HP. Find a set of 781 or 049 castings (lots of them out there). Have 2.19/1.88 valves installed with some port work and they're be more than enough for you.
Not counting all the peanut port heads, there are no real bad BBC head castings however there are a lot of different combustion chamber sizes to pick from. Most common is 119cc open chamber. This allows the large valves to be unshrouded and compression ratio can easily be increased with a dome piston.
