Questions on what to do with a '67 Race Car
Questions on what to do with a '67 Race Car
I've acquired a clean '67 roller with a shortened Dana rear, ladder bars, wheelie bars, etc.
I want to make it into a drive to the track & race car. I assume if it is streetable, it will be more saleable.
Small or Big Block? Is there a class that would make this car more desireable?
I know most race cars are Turbo auto---how about a 4 speed for this car? Nice vintage touch?
Is there vintage drag racing?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Many Thanks,
Tom

Great--say more about bracket racing.
Also, I saw your red car--beautiful--you do drive it on the street.
Here is a link to the 67

I drive my car on the street and to and from the track. My best was 10.90@125 mph.
The car you bought is set up for bracket racing. I would put in it either a small block or a BBC with a auto trans. Either a th350 or a th400. You have a nice car there. It will hook hard and go straight. With 4:88's in the rear I'll bet it has 31 or 32 inch tires in the back. I'll bet it's a wheel stander. You have a gem there.
Edit.
I just read the description and saw the 30" tires. I would say it is worth at least 10,000 as is. You got a deal, this is a good time of year to buy that kinda car.
How fast you want to go? You can get a ready built n/a BBC from Reher Morrison or Bill Mitchell and you'll be in the low 9's real easy.

Hey--thanks a million! Really appreciate the help. Now look, I'd do a lotta stuff too if I wuz rich--but I'm not.
Help me understand what I can put in it that:
1.Won't put me in the poorhouse
2. Will make the Camaro overall most saleable
Thanks!

Cheap (relativley) and stupid fast? Here ya go - Have a 2 bolt chevy block splayed for 4 bolt mains, forged 383, 18 degree edlibrocks, single plane intake to match and a custom hyd. roller cam. If you wanna drive on the highway with those gears youll need a serious overdrive. Get a TH-350 / Th-400 (build) and put a .50 gear vendors OD on it.

This time of year is perfect for what you are doing. Look for a used motor and transmission. This time of year people are looking for Christmas money and racing is a long ways away and you can get a deal if you look in the right places.
Check here for some deals or talk to your local racers. I don't know how far you are from Ohio or if you get out this way but I know a guy that could put you in a racing transmission for less than 700.00. I got mine from him and he even gave me a warranty.

If you just want to sell the car I would do some work to the engine and get a matching converter, some new tires then put a sign on it.
Since the motor is out I would put a new oil pump, pan on it. Pull the heads. Either replace them or have them worked over. New cam, lifters, pushrods, intake, carb, MSD, headers, and it should be ready to go.
