What's your rear gear?
Maybe the addition of the converter is making the trans slip in second gear. Or maybe it is blowing the tires off at the 1-2 gear change.
Or maybe with that big of a stall it's going from 1st right into 3rd gear limp home mode. Anything over a 3000 stall can cause problems of this sort unless it's been tuned for.

You may have too tall of a stall for the combo.... I run a 3600 stall but have a stroker. I would have probably selected somewhere around 3000-3200 for your setup. But anyway, the slips do not make sense.... Your trans could be slipping.... Did you use synthetic when you installed the new converter? If so it may be too slippery for the transmission.... Just a thought... I've been wrong before...
Im using a TCI torque converter 3600. Got it used. I as far as slipping goes, Im feeling go smoothly into every gear, and as far as going from 1 to 3, I felt it hit every gear.
So I guess I need to get the car tuned for the converter???
The reason I got a 3600 stall was that my friend has a supercharged + cammed v6 camaro. He was putting down like 297 hp and 285 tq and he had a 3500 stall, and he was cutting like 1.8xx 60' and running low 8's.
So I figured if I got a stall similar to his I could cut similar 60 and run in the 7's.
Thanks for the responses...please keep them coming.

That may be true for him, but the type of stall you use depends on your rear gear and where your motor makes its power. I gaurantee his blower v6 makes power far differently than your mildly cammed v8.
Go to the drivetrain section and read the sticky about stall speed.
