people with lift off hoods, help me out

anyone running a lift off on a 4th gen?.....I have installed many on other cars but all of them had metal fenders.

Has anyone used quarter turn brakets and just riveted them to the fenders? Just wanted to ask, the stuff seems pretty weak

I am using the 4" Glasstek and used the 1/4 turns like you. Here are some pics of mine when finished. http://www.gmhightechperformance.com.../photo_02.html

The only thing I would do differently is put 4 on each side and mount them using a metal rail all the down each side. Later Clint

On my 84, which has plastic fenders, I used a row of Dzus fasteners down both sides(5 each) and pins(2) in the front. I also used individual "L" brackets riveted into the fenders, for each Dzus. I have had no problems after years of use. There have been no signs of pull through or cracking. I did however reinforce the edges of the hood, not the fenders, with extra fiber glass.

The reason for buying this type of hood(race hood) is for the light weight. If you add a lot of heavy reinforcement to it you negate the reason for buying it in the first place.
If you want or need a sturdier hood, then get a street hood. It's still lighter and you can get the design you like.
Are you having a specific problem??

This would be good to know if he does.

My hood had a lot of flex in the rear so I ended up making 2 tabs that come of the firewall out of 16ga and have a dzus on each side of the cowl in the rear. Made the hood alot more sturdy
