SB2 LT1 goes 10.44 all motor

I think I've got it running good now. Went 10.44 @ 131 all motor. The new G-force tranny is working great. Shifting clutchless is a rush. Gotta get the launch down. 60's only in the 1.59-1.61 range today. the track was pretty slick. Might be time to start hitting the jug.

Those are some real good shake down numbers.
These are the first passes on the new clutch and trans combo right?
How many runs did you make?
Was there any tire spin? (clutch hitting to hard)
If your Soft lock is like mine, it takes a few passes to losen up.

On my first 3 passes (with new clutch) I was also 1.59 to 1.55, 60', with tire spin on a poorly prept track.
I had 4.5 turns in the clutch, on that first test.
Went to a better track, with 4 turns and went 1.50 then 1.47 then 1.45.

We should both go 1.3x's once we get our clutches tuned.

Thanks everyone.

Bill: I wasn't doing any clutch tuning. I had 10 turns in it to make sure it wouldn't slip so I could work the other issues out. It was blowing the tire off at the hit. We made 4 runs in all:

The first was using the clutch and lifting between shifts and went 10.86 @ 126 1.58 60'

Next run was clutchless and went 10.44 @ 131 1.585 60'

Next run was same but had some rev limiter probs and went 10.55 @ 130 1.61 60'

Next run was same but hot lapped 10.50 @ 129 1.59 60'

I need to get the car setup so that adjusting the clutch isn't a nightmare then I can work on it. Problem is I don't want to tune it fo rthe motor and then start over on the spray.

That's great for the first time out! Your short times should be at least mid 1.40's or high 1.30's. Get it to hook and it should be bottom 10's. Congrats!

Ya Dave, thats the right way to do it, definitely don't want to smoke the disc on the 1st pass. I did not mean to imply 4 turns was the right adjustment for you, there is way to many variables.
My little 7", two disc, only has 6 turns of base adjust total. So each turn is 180 lbs of pressure, and I'm probably running more counter weight (centrifugal pressure).
You may find yours is good at 7 to 9 turns, I would not even want to try and guess. Just take a little out at a time, maybe try 8.5 to 9 turns the next time you go.

On the adjusting, did you drill a hole in your can on the right side of the trans?
I can adjust base in about 15min. If you mark your balancer hub at the 6 places the adjusters line up with the hole, it helps.
To change counter weight, I may need to pull the trans.

Here is a pic of where I drilled mine, and how I adjust it.

The home made adjusting tool, the allen has a ball tip on the end. The marks on the extension, so i can keep track as I turn. I get confused easily

LOL!!! Bill, your car is awesome. If I ever get a chance to build a 1st gen, I'd build it very similar to your car.

Thanks for the pics Bill. I have the hole drilled in the same spot as you but not nearly as big. I was worried about tech inspectors but at this point I think I may enlarge it the next time the trans is out. Plus mine is the single disc so it is further inside the bell. I like the way your adjusters are close to the bell surface, real easy to see. I like the homemade tool too. I gotta make one of those.

Depends on options, see price list
here. http://www.gforcetransmissions.com/p...Trans05.07.pdf

Dave probably got a deal

Don't forget $2K to $3K for an adjustable clutch.

This sounds like a dumb question, but...what size allen wrench is it for the adjusters? Would you believe I don't remember from when I adjusted base.

Dave, yours are probably the same as mine, 7/32", a Soft-Lock could be different. Don't know for sure?

BTW I had to go look, I could not remember either
