newb launching questions
when i went to the track last week i stalled my car on M/T's to 1k rpms then smashed the pedal to the floor. got the jump on a 2k SS on slicks, but he caught me a little after the 1/8. not to hijack but is there any difference between leaving the trans in D and putting it into 3 when you race??
When you say 3 I am thinking you mean 2 because our cars don't have 3. I like to, I don't know if there is a diff though. I do because if I break traction and have to back off the pedal for a second it wont shift into 3rd thinking I am just crusing because if it did when I hit it again it would go right back down to 2nd and I could break loose again.

Sorry to tell you but 3 is a number and D is a letter.

Ever since overdrive autos have been in exhistance there have been 2 different ways of calling out the gears.
One way is
1 = first
2 = second
3 = third (1:1 ratio)
OD = forth (overdrive ratio)
Another way is
1 = first
2 = second
D = third (1:1 ratio)
OD = fourth (overdrive ratio)
Therefore 3 = D to anyone that has been involved in or owned automatic transmissioned automobles for more than 1 or 2 cars.
