newb launching questions

How do you launch at a certain rpm? I always thought that you rev up in neutral then throw it into drive (or gear) is that right?

Is it dangerous to do this? If I revved up to 6000-7000 rpms then launch, would my car explode?

Does it matter what kind of car you drive? Could a pinto launch like a ferrari?

I wouldn't free rev your in N then slam it into D. Just have it in drive hold the brake down and bring the rpms up a little bit. Not too high because your tires will break loose. Just a little higher then idle. Then when you are at the rpms you want let off the brake and your off. Just mess around with it a little bit. Some people don't like this technique but it has worked for me.

NO

YES or at least burn up your trans.

Depends, I launch both of my car pretty much the same way. The conv is stock and is launched at 1500 (holding the break down and give it a little gas til the tach reads 1500, 3rd yellow lift off the break pedal and smash the gas) and the stroker launches at 1800. My reaction time is about the same in both cars. But the convert runs 2.2 60' times 14.70ish ET and the other car goes 1.5 60' with mid 11's ET.

how do most people do it?
If you put the brake on, then rev, wouldn't the car move forward and maybe even start doing a burnout?

how do people launch at launch at like 3000 rpms? There is no way they are doing that with brake/gas

hmm...or do you mean the emergency brake to lock the back tires? If this then how do fwd cars launch?

I know some that launch that high using not the e-brake but the regular foot brake. They just have a higher stalling torque converter.

Foot break and a "stall" converter will let you bring the launch rpms up. I think most people launching from 3000 to 5000 have stick shift cars. In my convert 1500 (stock converter) is the limit I can bring the revs up. After 1500 the rear tires start to spin and the car lurches forward. In the hot rod I can bring the revs up to 2600 (stall converter).

Yeah with my ST3800 I hold the brakes as tight as I can and rev it to 3000 rpm. It leaves pretty hard that way.

Yup just hold the brake and the gas barely(till about 1500) and when your're gonna go, let go of one and smash the other. It works beleive me, I have a 95 3.8 auto (with CAI, hi flow cat, flows, and 3.42's) and i have outlaunched 2 5.0's (and beat them) and also outlaunched a 02 GT (till about 35)

Don't rev in NEUTRAL then throw it in gear!!! Just leave the tranny at "D" and slam the gas.
