Talking New times w/cam!!!!

(all runs were made with 1/2 tank of gas, spare and jack in tact)

well, i started the night running a 12.97@105 mph on a ****ty 1.96 60' time.

by the end of the night with the belt pulled and running open headers i got it down to a best of
12.63@109.27 mph on a 1.866 60' time

i think it has a 12.4/12.3 in it somewhere. the drag radials i was using were down to the cords.

some LCA's, M/T slicks, v6 springs and more tuning are on the way soon. and mabey some 4.10 gear. oh yeah, it is also going on a diet (hoping to drop 100-125 lbs. with the SS hood, skinnies, spare and jack, bumper support and mabey the back seat.)

NE way, i am stoked and cant wait to get back when i have the car completely ready to go.

Wow, good times.

So let me get this straight, you pulled the serpentine belt and un-bolted your Y-pipe and picked up 4mph? Holy crap. I was running 107.4 mph through a cut-out with everything else on the car, 100% stock except for the exhaust and ripper shifter. My best was a 13.00

are your heads ported or anything?? those are good times!

what gear are you currently running and do you really think that the open exhaust gave you that much of a gain or was there another factor involved such as temp or maybe your time was better because of your 60' time? thanks man

and again good times!

no, i have dual cutouts (one behind each header) and i uncapped that. i did pull the belt too. i made two runs prior to doing this and it DEFINATELY was the reason for the drop in ET. the weather stayed the same all night (70*). i have stock heads and i am running 3.73 gear. but once i get some more runs in with these i am considering switching to 4.10's for some REAL low 12's.

Those are decent times but I think you need to look into more converter and leave the 3.73's in the car. I swapped to 4.10's and gained nothing so I put my 3.42's back in b/c I hated the highway driving with 4.10's. You need to look into lowering your 60's with more converter and better tires. I think the open exhaust helped you but the belt is also good for 1mph or more gain too. I never got a chance to drop the belt on mine when my car was running right but tried it recnetly and it definately helps. If i weren't having trans troubles again I am sure i would be running 12teens to 12.20's with my Hotcam. I will have it right in the next couple weeks but the hot weather and 90% humidity in Louisiana kills my ETs. Good Luck and get those 60's down and you will be in the loww 12's.

well, i was getting a little "miss" down low and it turns out it was a combo of bad spark plugs/fuel filter.
i am going to swap to a 3600 Vig in a few months. i am going to get some ET slicks too. i have had these dr's for a LONG TIME and they finally bit the dust (u could see the cords in the tire). i know it has another mph and a few tenths left. i would like to see 12.4's at 110 the way it sits.

Just a note for you. I went what is in my sig with a 3200 stall on stock heads. Then I decieded to get an FLP Level 4 Trans with re-stalling the vig to a 3600. My 60' got better but it hits a brick wall up top now. This years best is only a 12.42 at 107.0 mph. I think the 3600 is a bit much for a stock headed car. I am now installing GTP's so we will see what happens...

Just giving you a heads up if you deciede to go bigger. Not all cars respond the same but I figured I'd let you know my expieriences so far.

Nice times!!

smokin_94_Z......
thanks for the heads up. with heads WAY down the line i guess i will just stick with the coan and go with 4.10s and see what happens. my poor 60's have more to do with the stock suspension (115,000 miles), and bad tires. i think it has low 1.7's, high 1.6's with that converter.

SS hood is not the lightest option if you really are wanting to loose the weight.

i am not putting on a SS hood. i think it is called a big block hood or something. i had my stock hood on when i ran those times. the big block hood is a little lighter IMO. nm, but at least 5-10 lbs i would think
