Neil: Ask Chris in a couple months - That is what he is going to be using as his "drag tire." He will be using them at Thunder...

..
go here and see what one guy has said..:
http://members5.boardhost.com/RACING.../msg/6363.html

Dave Rudisell runs his 8.70 Mustang in the NSCA Drag Radial class
he is the current world champion..

I'm hearing they are more than a tenth quicker than the BFG's..
that's pretty amazing when you figure the big boys are in the
mid 1.30's on the 60'
Brady McNew's buddy's car went 1.36 on the bumper in his
95 Z28..that has 315/60 BFG's..can you imagine better than that!?..LOL
check out the video..

these are the same tires Brady ran on
the Power Tour last year!..WHEW!

I've got a recent issue of Hot Rod mag in which they compare the new Mickey Thompson E/T Street Radials to a set of M.T. E/T Drags, and the radials out-performed the drag tires!!! They were running them on the same car, same day, and with the radials, they got better 60' times and 1/4 mile times!!!

They also said there was no point in comparing to the BFG DR's because the M.T.'s would clearly be the winner, since they're already such a proven tire.

I don't know what the cost of E/T Street Radials is to the regular E/T Streets, but I think I'd like a set this year myself.

Fred got it.

I meant these (ET Street Radials) vs. these (ET Drags) .

.....NOT the regular ET Streets .

Must be nice for Mickey Thompson when they out-do themselves!!

HotRod test:

On a sidenote, you have to mention the following: In the first round, they were getting actually better 60' with the ET Drags than the new ET Street radials. (high 1.6s vs. high 1.7s if I remember correctly) In the second round, they resprayed the track with VHT, and went with the ET Street Radials only. They've got a low 1.6 short time, but in my opinion, if they went with the ET Drags on the resprayed track, they would have got much better results...
You've gotta watch carefully what they say, as it is a bit of marketing involved here and there

Come on now! Magazines would never tell white lies to help marketing.

Hey, did they go quicker or not?

.....or like Vin Diesel said, "winning's winning " .

OK, so I got suckered in by their marketing technique, but regardless, I think it's a safe bet to say that those ET Street Radials are probably a damn good street slick.

The construction of a MickyT radial is:
Tread= 1 steel belt, 2 nylon, 2 polyester
Sidewall= 2 ply polyester

BFG drag radials
Tread= 2 steel belts, 2 polyester
sidewall= 2 steel belts

On average, passenger radials are made up of 4 steel belts and 2 poly on the tread. Sidewalls have 2 ply steel and 2 ply polyester.

our first shipment of 275-60-15 mickeyt radials came in last friday and tuesday they were gone!
Backordered everywhere..sigh

The sidewalls are where the major improvement in design is at for the MTradial from what I see.

Re: New M/T drag radials?

I just wanted to dig up an old post to see if anyone else has tried these now.

I just got a set (275/50/15's) for my new Weld Pro-Stars and WOW! They hook like nothing I've ever seen in a street tire.

I went to the track to test them out and I could not spin them off the line at all. I got one quick but loud bark at the 1-2 gear change. I was launching with a 2500 stall, flashing some passes and preloading others. My tranny was just race built and the 3500 stall was not ready yet so I had the 2500 in as a temp. I made my first pass with full tire pressure (~32lbs) with a 1.9 60ft. After that I dropped them down to 20lbs. Still got a 1.9 60ft. Seven passes later, seven more 1.9 60fts'. I'm excited to see what it will do once the new stall is in.

I had the 275/40/17 Nitto 555r in for the last few months but after the engine change I could never get them to hook off the line. I used to get a little sideways after the 1-2 shift. -Not any more.

Re: New M/T drag radials?

I'm on my second pair now already... I'm very happy with these tires ! They hook better & last a little longer than the BFG radials. I got about 195 runs out of my first pair & there was still some life left in them. (vs typical 150-170 runs for the BFG) I actually like them better than the regular ET Streets.. about the same performance at the track & much easier to live with when driving on the street.

Really I should say they suck... the worst tires ever made. THEN maybe I'd be able to find them in stock when ordering

Re: New M/T drag radials?

I don't head to the dragstrip very often. I have a spare set of rims that I mount my drag radials on. Do these last any longer in terms of drying up. My nittos started to feel harder even though I didn't have many runs on them. I would let them sit in my garage during the month and then head to the track once a month. Those of you with bfg's(since that is the only tire I could use as reference) how much time, not runs before they would loose their softness. Also, is there anything I could do with these MT Drag Radials to help them stay soft like put them in bags with some chemical while they sat in my garage on their spare rims until I call them into action?
