New Best 1/4 ET

Old best...

60’………. 2.096
330’………5.829
1/8……….8.867 @ 81.70
1000........11.459
1/4…...…13.659 @ 101.32
Air temp = mid-fifties
Cut out = open
Back seat passenger seat, spare & jack removed

New best...

60’………. 1.555
330’………5.418
1/8……….8.548@ 79.29
1000........11.212
1/4…...…13.460@ 99.1
Air temp = low seventies
Cut out = closed
All seats, spare and jack in car

Is a 1.55 60' on street tires pretty good? Is it reasonable to expect any improvements without additional mods?

Thanks,

Finn

if that 1.55 is on a true street tire then that is damn impressive. it doesnt seem right though. your 60' time alone is .5 faster that your old time but your overall 1/4 mile time is only .2 faster. did you make any other passes and if so what were your 60" times on those?

i just read it again and noticed that your cut-out was closed and you also had mor weight in the car on the new pass. with the cut-out closed you will have more low end torque but less up top so i guess that with the combination of the extra weight and the higher temp does make sense.

According to the mod list... basically stock automatic with 2.73 gears and street tires is not going to get a 1.55 sixty foot time. Something blew through the timing lights.

I agree. When you actually cut a 1.55 sixty foot you will know the difference.

Re: New Best 1/4 ET

Thanks for raining in my parade!

That was actually my first thought when I picked up the time slip and it may very well be the case.

Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to make another run. So we'll see what happens next time.

For now though, I'm framing that time slip and hanging it in the living room!

EDIT (6/24/06; 2:44 pm)...

Ya know I'm thinking about this, and if it were somthing blowing through the lights, wouldn't just one of the times (60' or 1310') be screwy?

I kinda thought both of them were a little odd. I mean I was ran 14.0xx on three previous runs with 60' times around 2.1. Then BAM! a 13.46 with a 1.55. The temperature really hadn't dropped much -- maybe 5 degrees or so.

Just wonderin'.

maybe exhaust fogged the beams and they didnt catch when you took off right away. anything like that could happen. i really think that you took off and the lights didnt catch it because all your mph's are down but you times are much quicker. sorry to say this but it was a glitch. it happens, thats why when drivers set records they have to back them up or it doesnt count.

Re: New Best 1/4 ET

definately not going to go from a 2.0 60' foot to a 1.55 60' foot and not pick up anywhere else AND lose MPH compared to the previous run. 1.55 on slicks is pretty difficult to acheive and for a 13 second car, just not possible in your case. a 1.55 60' is typically indicative of a 11.XX pass horsepower level.

Are you sure you didn't stage with your back tires. I highly doubt you can get a 1.55 with your supporting mods.

Re: New Best 1/4 ET

Upon further review, my reaction time was about .5 seconds slower than my average. Something, a piece of paper, mouse, someone's foot, must have momentarily blocked the staging light while I launched. That would explain the consistant .5 (more or less) differential in the incrementals on the two runs.

I figured something was up -- just didn't think it through all the way.

"Are you sure you didn't stage with your back tires." -- That's good!

Thanks,

Finn

Re: New Best 1/4 ET

damn thats a nice error!

I have pretty much the same car as you (94' A4 with 2:73s) and with headers, cutout and meaty 285 Goodyear F1s I wasn't able to do any better than a low 1.8 60'.

Staging with my rear tires?

I s'pose that would be an effective way to improve 60' times.
