Need some converter advise

I currently have a TCI 4000 stall w/ballooning plates
I went from a 4.86 to a 3.73 gear and picked up 1-1.5 tenths
My peak torque in around 4400rpm, I also have a 2800-3200 TCI stall w/ballooning plates
When I leave on the juice the converter flashes I know it's supposed to but it flashes up around 4500-5000 I'm wondering if I go to the 2800-3200 will I pick up because more than likely it will flash lower and let me use the torque more efficently? Im thinking it will work on the same principle as the gear change, and let me use the torque I have

Anyone tried this before?
