need launch help!!!

i have an m6 lt1. 3.73's in the stock 10 bolt, and mcleod dual friction clutch. car has about 320 estimated hp (lt1 with basic mods). i'm running on street tires and can't seem to find a good rpm to launch at. 2500 boggs the car down after the clutch fully engages, and any higher just spins the tires. I've tried riding the clutch for a second fro mthe 2500rpm launch, but it still seems to lag. any help from similar setups? thanx

Re: need launch help!!!

maybe you could add an aftermarket suspension product (such as a torque arm or something) to help you hook up better so you can do a little higher than 2500 and hook without bogging
just a suggestion if you have any money laying around, i know i don't

you bog at 2500? wtf?!?!? something is wrong man, your not putting your power to the road... even if you launched at 1500 - 2000 with a stickshift, and 3.73 gears, you should be able to punch it and roast em up for a few yards.... at least.... you got a fat throttle body, headers, MAF, perf. clutch, and a 6 speed? jesus, you may wanna check your tuning, as well as the clutch. maybe the clutch is malfunctioning? or the flywheel needs to be resurfaced? i would have to see that in action to estimate what i would think is wrong, but ill tell you right now, recent events have lead me to believe i probably dont have 3.73s in my car, but more like 3.42s or something. but even with that, i can launch in a stick, from dead stop, 700 RPMs, drop the hammer and lay rubber for about 35 feet.... you have a cam or something? sounds like a problem a friend of mine had when he put his cam in, but he had an automatic.... i just find it har to believe anything under 2500 RPMs isnt launching you right in a stick with 3.73 gears.... try this.... right before the green light rev up to about 4500 RPMs and let the idle drop back down right as the light goes green, and of course in that same split second drop the hammer and punch it! the bringing up of your revs will allow you to launch initially at a higher RPM, but when your clutch fully engages it wont be till about 2200 - 2500 and you should be able to laucn without much wheelspin.... again, this technique is more often used in late model 3rd gen camaros lol (i had a 92 25th anniversary RS with a 5 speed, it worked for me! no IROC even came near my nose end.... let alone showed me his tail lights, and all i had was a TBI 305....) so in all honesty, i dont know why you would have that problem.... but try it, who knows, it may work out for you

Re: need launch help!!!

o... one more thing, if your 1st gear is just too insane for a high revolution take off.... you may want to consider a takeoff in 2nd.... i know what i test drove a 2002 SS convertible 6 speed....... it worked nicely.... to say the least **Big cheesy smile** that thing hauled *** in a 2nd gear launch... had to bust about 3000 RPMs to do it, but when it hit, it flew... like i said, i dont know how insane your setup is, so you may need to do that in order to get that ET your looking for... think about it, its 1 less gear you have to shift through, and your 1st gear should be next to nothing in that car... what... 10mph? 15? lol i get about 20 - 25 in my car, and its a 4 speed.... just my humble opinion, try it, it wont hurt to find out just make sure your clutch/transmission can handle it, i know my 92 could, and that SS could... but can yours? one thing you dont wanna do, is blow a seal, or tear your clutch up, when i had my stock clutch in the 92, i ran about 8 times back to back, and THEN it blew my clutch.... never had a problem afterwards, the clutch had fought the good fight... and it was done... so use this advice at your own risk.... hope it works out for ya!
