cheap bolt ons to help my ET's
Re: cheap bolt ons to help my ET's
Buy a used n2o kit . I got a nitrous works wet kit and it took almost a second off my time. Also search for free mods there are a couple of them that are really easy.
Re: cheap bolt ons to help my ET's
If you are looking for cheap parts you should look in the for sale section. Just buy used parts if you can't afford new ones. Like (depends on what year car you have) you can get a used cai for around $100. Used cat-back for around $2**. I got my headers and y-pipe used for $205 shipped. Go to madz28.com he does tunes for I think $80 and promises 13rwhp on a stock car I believe the #'s may be a little off. But if this is still too much you can do the free mods like Throttle Body Bypass. Do a search for free mods and you will find plenty.
Re: cheap bolt ons to help my ET's
TIRES, TIRES, TIRES!!!
If you want "quick" ET's, then get some sticky tires
. Heck, my car with 2.73's ran 13.43, and with 3.73's, it still ran 13.43!?
(bad traction). This year with the 4.10's and NEW TIRES, I'm down to 13.06
(and hopefully even better this w/e, since I've now got a set of BFG Drag Radials
).
If you've got an automatic, then a stall converter will cut nearly 1/2 second off your time, and/or gears (whether you've got an A4 or an M6). Obviously any power gainer will help too
(cam, headers, heads, etc.).

Re: cheap bolt ons to help my ET's
Cheapest and most effective is to remove weight! Remove any stuff you normally leave in the car, any floor mats, etc. and take out the spare and jack, for starters. You can go further by taking out the rear and passenger seat.

Remove excess weight, vaccum carpet (sand is heavy), obviously have a clean air filter and fuel filter, synthetic oil, decent plugs and wires, basic tune up stuff. It is amazinghow much that stuff can hrut you if it is old and weak...
For mods, drag radials will really help you hook up at the launch. Disconnecting the front sway bar will also help but will help more if you have good tires.
Headers on a 1994 are the single best modification you can make. The sngle largest exhaust restriction is in the stock exhaust manifold. A cat back is nice but it will not provide any benefit over a stock exhaust in terms of performance. Headers are where you will receive bang for the buck. Any headers. Obviously we all have preferences and some are better than others, but any headers will help.
A decent cold air intake system will help a lot as well. Again, it doesn't matter what brand.
Headers, cold air, and drag radials got me 13.5's at 100-101 with my six speed car. I also had better gas mileage as a result of the modifications and I had crappy non-coated Edelbrock headers.
Leave the stock cat alone. Removing it makes getting inspected a hassle and until you really need a bigger exhaust the performance increase from removing it will be very minimal. Also, do NOT "gut" it. That will just disturb the airflow of you exhaust, slow you down, and make it louder.
Shallow staging is a good way to improve your ET at the track. Also, air up the front tires to about 42 pounds, have about a 1/2 tank of gas, and drop the rears to around 22 pounds or so...
Have fun.
