Re: Need help with suspension set up.

If taking an otherwise stock car, your money will be best spent running a bias ply type slick. You can get away with alot in terms of suspension and chasis not being properly tuned and still get 100% traction even in the heat of the summer when track temps get above 120* and get greasy. Hooking a stiff sidewall radial tire gets to be hit and miss under these extreme conditions.

As far as the pass count, I racked up just over 1800 passes and 5-6K street miles on my old 388 that finally succombed when the crank snout broke off behind the timing gear-my tranny builder is estatic and has it listed on his website LOL as everything went the full distance. At first I thought it was due to the fact I ran the newer 9 way keyed lower gear and reports after many started having similair things happen showed many of the first gear set-s were not chamfered properly and when installing would dig into the crank itself and small spidering would start to appear and then it was a bomb waiting to go off. After inspection when we broke motor down, there were no idications of spidering on either side of the crank and all I can trace it back down to was using a completely stock short block...stock block, stock rods, stock crank, and new but still stock damper which I beileve was the culprit given the amount of pwr the thing made and long term abuse it took-which suprised all that knew what engine actually comprised of and stupidly low cost of it all Nice thing was all rod and main bearings still had the teflon coating on them and literally looked like they were brand new out of the box...a big thumbs up for my engine builder and synthetic oil!!

Anyways, the car was raced literally every weekend at one track (the day here or there we'd take off was always offset with additional race dates or multi dayed events) or another from the time the place opened until tracks closed. This included many T&T's fine tuning/practicing the tree, many all night street drags, 3 day race events, double/triple entered races while normal points races were being run, etc...it became an obsession and addicition literally and now that the engine finally let go (excuse I've been waiting for to take a break) it will sit this season while I build our new shop and take care of some other things around the house. I was disappointed with my finish last season, I was always in the top 3 all year for our track modified class and the summit super series for our track, so hoped to finish 1st and 2nd in either to hopefully catch a ride and just drive on somebody elses dime since my expense after 4yrs is enough to pay cash for a typical house...literally. Unforetunately my engine let go the weekend before our last 2 points races and point leads from 1st -5th spot were only 5 rounds so it literally came down to the final weekend as to how it would play out. Had to drive the S-10 which we have'nt spent alot of time actually sorting out issues due to the car taking presendence, and was out 1/2 sat and then 1st sunday and ended up with a dismal 4th in track points and 3rd in SSS by .001 in R/T average I've got 2 offer's thus far, but not was I was truely hoping for, still mulling one which one to take, if I even take it? I've learned alot, esspecially these last 2 seasons hitting it very hard that i now have a different approach I will take when I come back to the sport to make it less expensive and more productive...if i can keep from getting addicted again

Wife asked about putting in a street motor so I could at least cruise with the guys this summer like we've always done, all I could say was that would be like putting beer in a recovering alcholics refridgerator....if the temptation is there with a running car...it will be raced so i just soon let it all sit dead in the water.

Re: Need help with suspension set up.

Sounds good, I'll get some measurements for shipping individually and having them taped together as a set then call UPS and Fex EX to see who will give me the best rate. I'll try to get it all taken care of tomorrow, but i have a busy day so I might not get back with the info until Tues.

Are you thinking the Hoosier's or M/T's? since size wise they are different and will likely be enough to change shipping rate a little bit.

Re: Need help with suspension set up.

FMFracing and 89385formula it is cheaper to ship seperately due to staying under the oversize limit.

FMF EACH tire came to $21.91 shipping with just labeling directly applied to tires themselves...not boxed/crated in anyways to stay under weight restriction and oversized fees. This is how I used to recieve all of my tires until I switched suppliers. So $43.82 total

89385: shipping to NY came to $24.51/ea. so $49.02 total

If interested either PM me for any payment option other than pay-pal (preffered) and obviously funds will need to clear prior to shipping.

Pay-Pal addy: j.meighan@mchsi.com
Just be sure to send complete shipping info when paying this way so I can print out the tags and get these things coming your way.

Any other questions you can shoot me an email at email listed above for paypal.

Re: Need help with suspension set up.

What kind of struts do you guys recommend for front and rear? I guess adjustable drag shocks would be the best for the street and strip. Thanks guys.

Re: Need help with suspension set up.

Naturally fully adjustible and being able to control compression and rebound both would be the best for all worlds to fine tune. But I took the cheap route with 90/10 lakewood struts and 50/50 lakewood shocks...wishing I would have spent the extra money back then as I will now be upgrading to Q1A stocker stars at $139/ea.

Thinking when I do the tubular K member double adjustiable Q1A coil overs up front as well. Either way kinda limited up front currently for a drag inspired adjustible strut.

Re: Need help with suspension set up.

I must be the exception to the rule with consistent 1.55 60's with 255 50 16M/T Radials, 16x8s all around, both sway bars, stock springs/shocks, and some bolt on Spohn stuff...I kept it simple and concentrated on pinion angle and rod ended LCAs....I know I'm an A4 so its different, but I wouldn't necessarily give up on M/T DRs...Surprises a lot of "track" cars at the track...There's no doubt that a stick car will hook better with the side wall of an ET Street/Hoosier, but nothing rides like a radial...
