Need Advice

I've never been to the track (1/4mile) with my car yet. I am more of an autocross person. However I want to see what all the excitement is about. Can anyone give me any tips on RPMS to launch at, or anything else that will help me at the track? Please see the mods in my signature. I am currently running firehawk sz50's. Thanks,

Also, what would I need to hit mid 12's? I would rather not go with a torque converter. My wife has to drive the car and drove my buddies with a yank 3500 and was always complaining about slippage at low speeds.

Call your local track. Find out when they have test and tune nights/ street drags, and go.

The idea is to have a good time. My hunch is you will find it very addictive.

There are good descriptions of drag racing basics at both http://www.ihra.com and http://www.nhra.com

Ask questions, watch how the more experienced folks do it, and then give it a try.

My hunch with your setup is to drop the air pressure a bit in your back tires to 20-22 pounds, and when the third yellow comes on nail it.

In regards to mid 12's....

A torque converter will probably be part of that combination. You don't need or want a 3500 stall converter on a near stock car. 2800 should provide a decent bang for the buck and still be suitable for daily driving.

Your existing suspension components will not help much at the track but some drag radials for rear tires may be a good investment if you enjoy the 1/4 mile experience.

My advice is to go a few times and get some experience before setting your sights on a particular range of ET.
