how much would it help to get a set of nitto 555r drag radials? Since he will be running street tires, I would be able to keep from spinning that way. His car has the stock stall still with street tires.

It would be a huge help, like a night and day difference. If you are used to regular summer performance street tires, the drag radials will hook about 3 times better! But that's not going to help you that much in this race. Assuming his car is running right, it will be ugly against your car I'm sad to say. You would need longtubes/no cats, gears, sticky tires, and EXCELLENT driving to stand a chance.

well, I don't have any cats on the car, and traction would play a big part in just an 1/8 mile track. So maybe with the tires I could keep it close...
