Low 12s With Stock Longblock???

Ok, I picked up some 3.73s and posi from a friend the other day and in about a month I'll have my slipping tranny built with a 3,5k+ stall in. I'm getting a set of hooker LTs from another friend in the next couple of weeks.

Now I've seen a few guys on the board claiming to run low 12s with basically the same set-up I just mentioned, with the exclusion of RRs. How realistic of a goal is this??

My car with no stall/2.73s has been a best of 13.6 and normally runs in the .7s. With built tranny, stall, gears, and LTs, should I be expecting low 12s?? Realistically, I would think mid 12s might be possible. Now these other guys have done some other things such as weight reduct., susp., RRs, etc., but is there really 3-4 tenths to be found there??? (I've already done a tad bit of lb. reduct. jfyi)

Thanks, Jon

yes weight reduction helps. i have run a best of 12.36@109 with a stock longblock and 1.6 rr's.

all depends on how far you wanna take the car apart to run the numbers.

The guy with the Red Trans Am from a couple issues back of GMHTP is a poster on the EFA forum, and he just went 12.03@110 I believe at the MIR shootout. Yes, it's possible, but wieght reduction will definitely be needed.

Yeah that car weighs 3150lbs w/o driver so I would say major weight reduction and alot of tuning both engine and suspension. It takes 1.5-low 1.6's 60's to go low 12's with a stock engine and that is no easy task. It also takes some decent air. I think a more realsitic goal would be 12.90's until you get the car dialed in. JMO. Later Clint

Anything is possible!!
Get the weight out, it helps ET and is easier on parts. The car needs to be in the 3300#s or less with driver. I would really choose the right TC for the application. Just getting a large stall is not the best idea. I think a Yank ST3500 would be good or a Vig 2800. You want to use all the Low end TQ the LT1 produces and not get too ahead of it. Sticky tires is a must as well with alot of gear!! 3.73s will not be enough in my opinion...4.10s would be a better choice.

good luck!

I would be hoping for high 12's. You need to remove a LOT of weight to get down to where you can run low 12's with a stock car.
