Lightweight carpet options?

I did do a search but didn't find what I was looking for.

What is out there for lightweight carpet options? I have the factory black capet in my 1995 and oh my God is it heavy!!!

thanks!

I do not have a good answer for you on the weight issue but you certainly want to investigate the propeties of whatever you do in regards to combustion. When my car caught fire a couple of years back the stock carpet went up pretty quick and from what little I have seen of aftermarket stuff, you could greatly increase your chances of a fire if you are not extremely careful of your selection.

You can save a few #'s off the stock carpet by removing the thick insulation mat from the back. There are light-weight options in aftermarket carpets.... have to try and find a link.

Thanks for the tip. I'll look into that when I have my 6-point put in. Maybe from the front seats back would save me a few lbs.

I thought Speed Inc discontinued the light weight stuff, but I'm not sure...I just replaced mine with a new set from Year One who uses ACC...I left all the insulation on and it fits great...Its supposed to be a bit lighter than the stock stuff, but it felt pretty heavy...I'll tell you that the car is much more enjoyable to drive with the jute still on the carpet...Its almost quiet in there and I'm loving it...I had previously cut the back section of carpet out in the middle of the hump to save weight many stupid years ago and the car was always very noisey after that...As I get older I like the idea of quiet fast...

I've seen folks using the ozite stuff, but I'm not a big fan unless its a racecar...

Use the speaker box carpet. Clean off the entire floor then use a spray on adhesive to hold the carpet down. Patience and careful fitting will net you a clean install and a rug that ways a couple pounds instead of that heavy o.e. one. You can usually get it anyplace that does custom stereo installs.
