Leaving with a M6?
Leaving with a M6?
I took my car to Bradenton Motorsports Park in Brandenton last night and could not figure out how to leave right with a fairly stock Z28! The car seemed to not let me put it in second. I saw alot of manuals there and was wondering if someone could let me know how they do it to get the best time. I still pulled a 16.116 at 97 mph for having a HORRIBLE start. Thanks
Re: Leaving with a M6?
Without any kind of drag radial its very hard. I never took the car to the track completely stock, however i can tell you that the more mods i get the worse my 60's get on street tires.
Launching a stock M6 is tricky though, alot of cars act very different as well as track prep conditions play a huge part.
With a fairly stock car on street tires, i would just try driving around the water box, then heating up the tires. I would probably launch around 2200 rpms, but dont immediately mash it to the floor(get there quick but not instantly). Its gonna take a little finess with the throttle to keep it from spinning 1st. After 2nd in a stock car its ***** to the wall.
your MPH says that you can pull alot lower that what you ran. Hell i ran at the track for fun last night and bogged off the line and eased through 1st and 2nd(i was on street tires and not looking to break any records, just a fun run)and ran a 14.6 at 98.
So i know you can atleast do that
First mods for your Z, should be Exhaust, Intake, Gears, and Drag radials(BFG's preferably).

Re: Leaving with a M6?
That helps out a bunch...I got to take the car to Immokalee this weekend if I am not racing my dad's racecar...He has a Magnum with a HEMI in it and he thinks he can beat me...I don't know that is why I am trying to get the tricks of the trade with a manual because I want to beat him...thanks again for the help
Re: Leaving with a M6?
from your 60' and the mph difference between your 8th and 1/4 i am guessing something is wrong with your car or you are shifting very slowly....
an LT1 6-speed stock in good running condition should trap 99-102mph in the 1/4 and with decent shifting be low 9's to very high 8's in the 8th mile (from my experience and witnessing anyway) your 8th mile mph is WAAAY down it should be up about 78-79mph or so

Re: Leaving with a M6?
I think his car is fine, i do believe he needs some shifting help however, which is typical of a first time M6 driver at the track.
simple you also cant judge mph that much until we learn his track elevation and weather conditions.
BTW fubaracing, you probably should put where you are located in your profile. Im not familiar with the track you mentioned.
But simple makes a good point, how are you shifting the car, granny shifting, speed shifting...etc??

Re: Leaving with a M6?
I live in Fort Myers, FL and Bradenton is like an hour and 15 minutes away...it was a nice night...that is the thing that happened I think I left and smashed it and it didn't work...the car wouldn't go into second gear then I look in the back and all I see is smoke...that is why I was asking if people are smashing the throttle or if they are easing into it...it sounds like I should ease into it with a stock Z...
Re: Leaving with a M6?
Missing 2nd sure didnt help your times out. And its like i said its gonna take finess and how much depends entirely upon your car. You dont wanna just smash it outta the hole, but you dont wanna ease into it too much either.
Remember the more you practice the luckier you get

No problem, let us know how you do this weekend, and good luck.
On street tires, avoid the waterbox(drive around it) and heat them up pretty good. Also try with different tire pressures.
