Launching, high horsepower, a few questions...?

I am planning on making my debut track appearance in a few weeks with my 1996 Camaro Z28. It is making 752rwhp/626rwtq. The car has a T-56, aluminum driveshaft, and Moser 9", with Moser 31 spline axles, etc...blah.

I plan on running both ET Streets and Nitto 555Rs.

I was wondering what some of you guys with higher horsepower cars are launching at. Granted, 99% of the things I ask about I end up just having to find out for myself but...I'd just like a little heads up.

I'm not sure if I should just go out, do a good burnout and drop the bomb on it at like 5000rpm, or slip the clutch and roll out on it like I do on the street.

You guys think it will stay together with a hard launch?

Ditch the ET Streets and Get Hoosiers. Pick you launch RPM and dail in the chassis to hold it. DO NOT slip it out of the hole with your power. The clutch will not repeat to often

With that much HP and good soild take off's I am going to give the DS the first break. Once that is replaced by a Denny's DS you will get a few passes then ripp the Out put shaft in half. Now at this point you will either ditch the T56 and go with a TH400 or upgrade the output shaft to a Viper setup.

You have some good numbers there!

Good luck!

No preference on the tires, but I agree that the driveshaft will not hold up if the car hooks. The T56 held up to 733rwhp in my car with a 10" slick. Hopefully, you will have the same experience. I assume you have the Street Twin, if not the clutch will never hold. You shouldn't sidestep it, but just let it up quickly at ~3,000rpm for starters.

Good luck.

Hoosiers will hook better, but know what this car is intended for(street use), the M/Ts will last longer.

I'll take a broken driveshaft for $100 Alex. Put a 400 behind it and be done with it. You can probably sell the T56 for the price you'll pay to have the 400 built.

I'm wanting to milk the T56 as long as possible, I like a 6-speed car for the street. It just makes the car a lot of fun to drive overall and allows me to keep some driveability.

What driveshaft should I go with? It has an aluminum driveshaft at the moment. I could get a carbon fiber driveshaft, but if I don't have to...I won't.

I've been reading a lot about the output shaft problems, I'm just going to hope for the best.

THanks for the help,
Wes

You need a heavy duty steel driveshaft with 1350 U-joints. I am sure that a CF shaft can be made to work, but the current ones are shoddy. A functional one would probably be $1,000+, and the real world advantage over a steel shaft would be small anyway.

I have had good luck with Denny's shafts: http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/ The "nitrous ready" shaft is awesome for $336.

I used a Spohn last year and will be doing so again this year.

Carbon fiber is good if you're a track only kinda guy. On the street, it'll broomstick on ya.

Hey bud, that's alot of power to be making for the street. It would be fun i'm sure, but i don't know how it would work. If i made that much power, i would only race the car. I would put a powerglide behind it with a transbrake in it, and a different drive shaft. I like the feeling of launching my dragster at 5000 rpm's. You need a better tranny though i think to launch it that high.
