Launching with F1s

I'm stuck with the factory Goodyear F1s (275/40ZR17) and cannot afford new tires until I need to. Any reccomendation on how to get a good launch on these gripless tires. I have the 4L60E 4spd auto. Would adjusting tire pressure help? What PSI should I go to? Thanks, Brad

I cut only 2.0 60' on mine...they suck. I'd have to tell ya to drop em to around 20 psi and launch around 2K and see what result you get.

All ya gotta do it try different methods.....1.9's can be achieved but depends on track prep.

The best way to go is w/ Nitto's...and in that size you are looking at about $300 for a pair.

See if you can borrow some from someone....or buy some that only have a few miles left on em and stick em on some salad shooter rims just for the track.

BTW, Nitto's hook better if you burn em up a bit.

Yeah, I heard about the Nitto's. Would they hold up to everyday daily driver usage?, what about the Nitto that are a step down?

First off, I wouldn't spend the money for the Non Drag radial Nitto's for tires. I tend to like the BF Goodrich Gforce KDW I have them up front....pricey they are, but they have never been rotated and have 17K on them and barely look worn.

As for Nitto's I am on my 2nd set. The last set I got almost 13K out of them daily driven and track time on them......but I've been on the track alot since Oct when this set was new. I am just about to the wear indicator on these......needless to say I've finally perfected my standing burnout w/ my M6....so they are wearing fast!!

Well, also consider rain.....down in FL it can rain alot...and you need to be really careful in rain with them......deep, ponding water in a downpour is really dangerous.

I just take it easy no matter what. But for a daily tire...I love them. There is no other tire that gives me the feeling that the azz end of my car is stable on the road. Hard to spin them....they spin a bit getting on it from a stop....but they are still the best.

Let us know how you hook at the track.

I got my F1's to the point where they cut consistent 2.0 60's, but that's about the best they'll do. Don't burn them out, does no good (the compound isn't designed to get sticky). Just spin them enough to wipe the grit off, stay OUT of the water box.

Launch at 7-800 rpm by rolling on the throttle quickly and smoothly without mashing it. Practice, practice, practice. Best pressures for street tires is usually around 35 psi cold. Sounds like a contradiction, but it isn't. Street tires don't act anything like race tires.

Good luck!

ok heres a tire question. how can i get better traction when im already moving. when i launch the car i gain traction and then lose it again at around 4k. until i redline then in second i lose it again but just for a second. is it just my tires or is thier a way to feather the clutch or something. i would like to know what everyone does. and how i could do it too

I was checking out the new F1 they came out with(the ones advertised with the Z06, Lotus, and Porche) and from what I've read in reviews they are very different. Anyone have thoughts/experience with the new ones?
