kinda disappointed with ET's

I just got back from the track for the first time with my 00' SS 6spd, no air filter, Mac mids and y-pipe, Mufflex4", and hypertech PPIII. my best run was a 13.7 @ 103, with a 2.2 60' foot. i also had a 13.8....2.3 60", and a 14.0@ 103.97, with a 2.4 60" (bogged out really bad). i ran twice with the PPIII and twice without it, it seemed to be faster without it. but anyway, i had the tire press. at 20lbs, oh yeah, i removed the airfilter for all runs. It spun the first run, and bogged the rest. the times arent too bad but considering i raced an 04' SC cobra on the highway the other day and he pulled on me, but only like 1-2 car lengths off the jump. he ran a 12.48. I was reading a magazine the other day and they were testing a bone stock 01'SS (z06 intake) 6spd, and they got a 12.96 @108 out of it. they were launching at 2300rpm?? I'll have to try that next week. any tips??

Buy or borrow DRs to get the 60 ft. down yours have lots of room for improvement. Drop the 60 ft at least a couple tenths and you'll be in the low 13s.

See my best times in the sig (before and after gears), and just FWIW, when I went to the track last week, there was a '99 SS running 13.2's as well as me, but he had on a set of BFG DR's. His car was bone stock, except for a lid. Your problem is crappy 60' times.....they should be in the ~2.0 neighborhood (or quicker with sticky tires ).

Something else to try next time you go, if you can't/don't get drag radials or ET Streets or something, so you're still running on your normal street tires, pump the pressure up to around ~35 lbs . That's what I was running last week in mine, and I cut 60' times from 1.95 - 2.00 . Last year when I had 3.73's, I dropped tire pressure from 30 lbs to 20 lbs, and was running no better, if anything worse (ie: 2.2 - 2.3).

i dont want to break my rear end with drag radials. i thought for sure i should have been able to do a 13.0 or even 12.9 . i'm gonna go back up next week and try to get off the line better.

With those kind of sixty foots your going no were near a 12. Your not going to be able to hook street tires, I tried once and I was cutting sixty foots like that. If your afraid to break the rear, start saving for a 12 bolt. Thats the way it goes with a six speed car.

i know, but $2200.00 is alot for a rear end, I might just look into building this one. as soon as i sell my STS, i'll have more cash and the garage will be open.

2 things. Street tires work better at around 27 pounds or higher and leave the air filter in. The tiny little bit you might gain with it out just isn't worth inhaling all of the contamination.

I wouldn't worry about breaking your rear if your spinning off the line..it won't happen with wheel spin and you don't have enough gear to really shock the driveline if you don't drop it real high...work on power shifting also and those times will drop...too many times have I've seen people going out betting on running a number and not even coming close to it..pratice makes perfect..

The key to a quick ET is a good launch and shifting. Getting your launch down to a 1.9 may drop half a second off your ET and I bet by power shifting you could drop another tenth...
