It's sway, but it's not sway? (slicks)
It's sway, but it's not sway? (slicks)
Allright I ran on my slicks for the first time. love the traction out of the hole, but when I get to higher speeds (+25 mph) the car starts to sway back and forth, as if i have no sway bar. It got so bad that I got out of it, because I thought I was getting pretty close to the wall.
At first I thought I was spinning the slick on the rim, because I have no tubes/rivets, but I marked the tires and they didn't move (or if they did, they moved in a pefect circle each time) then I thought about my spohn drag bar needed to be adjusted, but then I remembered on the freeway, with my street tires, I get no sway at all. so something must be wrong with the slicks?
I got them balanced and the machine that they used both dynamically and statically balanced the tire/rim.
I'm lost... help me before I blow up my car.

I run about 13-14 pounds in mine. If they are underinflated it car they it feels like the back of the car is on ice. I learned this at Englishtown during a GM High Tech shoorout one year as the track "went away" toward the later rounds and I spoun off the line so the next round I dropped the pressure too much to try and make up for it. Fortunately the idiot in the other lane kept his foot in it too long and broke out so I survived to another round.
What manufacturer brand slicks are you running and what size? As pointed previously, sounds like under-inflation. If you put your street tires back on and everything is OK, then it is the slicks. Did you change anything else, like skinnies up front?
Also, did the problem get worst when you changed from 15 PSI down to 11?

the slicks are mickey thompson et drags, 26x10x15. It actually felt like it got better when I took pressure out... but that could be because I did a better burn out after I took pressure out.
and i'm well under 400 hp.. hell I'm under 300 rwhp. my sig has my mods
no skinnies on the front

Are you running normal street tires on the front??
That's probably why
.
If you're running bias ply on the back, you have to run bias ply on the front too. When we bolt ET Streets (non-radial) onto my Dad's '73, with the street tires (radials) on the front, the back end feels all loose like that.
When I run my drag-radials on my '02, it feels no different than having street tires on it
.
Run bias ply's in the front and that problem should go away.

yea u should have max pressure in ur fronts neways.... less surface area
