If you want lower ET and better 60' look in side

I just came back from a locale NSCA race held at Mid Michigan Motorplex in Stanton Mi and I watched a guy run consistant 60' times in the 1.9 to 2.0 and ET's of 11.30's on the motor a few times. He was pitted next to me and after a few passe's he pulled back in after those passes and then proceded to mount a 15lb nitrous bottle in the car. From that point forward he was 60' in the 1.4 range and his ET droped to 9.98 et his first bottle pass. He came over and started talking to us and this was his first ever nitrous pass with the car with a small tuneup of 300 shot which it probably was. The car was a 02 Firebird with a 383ci LS1 EFI running ET Streets on 15x10", stock suspension no mini tubes or anything of that nature and lastly a turbo 400 with a break plus 6 point role bar.

Car was hanging the tires off the line I would say 6" to 12" from the ground. He was launching the car off the transbreak on the bottle! To tell ya the truth I think the owner will end up improving his time because you could see he was somewhat nervous but when that passes I would bet maybe another few tenths will be shaved off.

Not bad for a 3500lb car and a little nitrous. I almost forgot to mention he drove the car to the race. Car can run on pump gas, the owner said the compression was only 10.5 to1.

I give the guy credit because for never running nitrous and this being his first nitrous pass he did well on both the driving and his N20 tuneup heck he didn't start at a P U S S Y shot of 150 or 200 either he put 300 jets in flow checked the fuel psi and made a pass!

Good for him!

Yeah, Steve had a really good run I hear. I would have loved to have seen it myself. And I can vouch that the car is TOTALLY streetable. He drove it to Woodward this year as well.

I agree Steve did good.

"How will this help our 60'?"

Take alook at the before and after results: 1.9 60' 11.30's et and when launching out of the hole on the bottle off the transbreak netted 1.4 60' 9.89 et.

That's how the time gets better.

If you can't get good traction now, then adding NOS isn't going to help much to the 60' times. Not everyone can hit the NOS right off the line especially a 300 shot.

Sounds like he has a pretty decent ride. I have one questions though. If he was only able to manage a 1.9 - 2.0 60' on the motor with a 11.30 pass then how was he able to hook up the 300 shot and improve to 1.4's in the 60'?

BTW - what was his MPH on the N/A pass? I ask because the N/A 60' times flat out sucked for a low 11 sec pass.

Stephen 87,

I think if your runnng street tires at the track and the car has some thunder under the hood your almost gauranteed to never hook. But the car I was speaking about was not narrowed or mini tubed and all that he was running was a 15x10 Weld with MT ET streets 28"x10.5x15. This is a very common tire/rim setup that many F-body owners run because they can get them to fit without to much hassle.

If your not hooking now I would dare say that more than likely your either runnning at a ****ty track that doesn't prep the track good enought or maybe tire psi is to high? I think if ya take a look at what could make the car break loose and what is needed to improve that then you should be getting things to rock and role!

I hear so many people complaining about not hooking but thats mostly because they have no clue as to what it takes to get the car to hook. Really this is no secrete that the fast guys are holding on to. Don't take this the wrong way and by no means am I saying anything negative to ya but really the horsepower that most people here are producing really isn't enought to warrant traction problems, especially at a good track if they have the proper equipment and setup. If guy making 1000hp can get down the track with 10.5 tire and run 60' in the 1.3 range or better and all with stock suspension running in the 8's there should not be one person complaining on this site especially if there car is making under 500hp. Like I said equipment and track prep usually are the cause. Try better tracks.

If you want to now what it takes to hook your car I will be more than happy to tell you if you like. Let me know.

Good Luck!

Hi Red,

The car is very nice but really it was nothing trick or custome built that anyone else couldn't purchase and install on there car. The 60' times NA where weak but the fact to keep in mind is the car is heavy! His bottle 60' are better because the nitrous is getting the car going faster out of the hole, this is nothing new with nitrous cars to see the 60' times drop so much when coming off the transbreak. Some of the other reasons his car more than likely 60 foots so low when not on the bottle is because he more than likely was running a converter setup for the bottle and when the car is making NA power it probably is a dog. My car is a dog when not on the bottle with my nitrous converter but I have another converter that is a little looser and what a night and day difference but I could never launch the car on the bottle with that converter neither.

I didn't get his mph but you can ask him if ya like because he is always on LS1.com his screen name is Derty, real name is Steve Dertien. I think he also has a web site: www.derty.org that should have all the cars info and what not.

See Ya
