I feel dumb, but i need help!

Okay, so i have a 1994 Z28 with an auto. trans., and my friend wants me to go to the track tomorrow with him, he has a...2004 Honda S2000...i think, it might be a 2003, but i am pretty sure it's 2004...anyway. I've never really raced before, let alone on the track...i've raced my friends V6 Firebird on the street and whomped on him, but i didn't use any technique there...because there really wasn't much of a match to begin with. Anyway, how exactly do i "start" the race...since i have an automatic, my friends say the best way to take off is rev in neutral, then slam it in drive and floor it, but other people have said just leave it at idle, and slam on the gas when the light is green...any advice on how to get better times will be really appreciated!

If you rev it up in neutral then slam it into gear, make sure that you bring a broom so that you can clean up after yourself 'cause there's going to be pieces of your tranny all over the starting line.
Put it in drive hold the brakes tight and ease the gas to about 800 rpms. When the third yellow light comes on, let off of the brake and roll the gas pedal to the floor.

If it was MY friend... I'd make sure he doesn't do any neutral drops in the first place

I would just try and go off idle or maybe get the rpm's up to 1000 or so with powerbraking.....but unless you have good street tires and the track prep is really good, then don't floor it off the line. Kinda go half throttle then roll into it quickly....try a few different things, but not flooring it yielded my best 60 foots by far when I had street tires. Don't get discouraged if you mess up your first few runs at the track....my first time at the track I let off like 30 feet before the finish because I thought I had already passed the finish line...hehe.
