how much weight to make a difference
Re: how much weight to make a difference
nice...
how much weight do you think i could pick up by taking out the spare, jack, draining the washer fluid, and back seats.
anything else i can ditch easily?

Re: how much weight to make a difference
U might pick up a 10th, but with the 6 speed I would be more concerned with launch and traction issues? Are you racing to run a number or to win races by running consistent ET?
Re: how much weight to make a difference
Been there. I loved racing with the clutch, I just couldn't afford the parts. Got a TH400 with a reverse manual VB for about 800.00. Went through two 4 spds and a few rear ends with the stick.
Re: how much weight to make a difference
Weight reduction thread - good for some ideas on what you can remove, and how much weight you will save:

If you use the popular calculators for "HP from ET" you can see that a 100# saving on a 3,600# race weight car running 13's would reduce your ET by about 0.112 seconds. The "rule of thumb" for 1/10th for 100# is pretty accurate. You should also pick up a shade under 1 mph.

Re: how much weight to make a difference
thanks...that helps. im not gonna go drastic...but i can easisly cut out 100lbs. just in terms of jack, tire, rear and passagner seats, washer fluid resivoir...i could lose 30 myself
Re: how much weight to make a difference
if i was u i would leave the spare, jack, and rear seats. move your battery to the hatcback, get rid of everything in the engine compartment that isnt needed in cluding power steering pump and box, air conditioning, washer fluid reservoir, front swaybar, air conditioning condenser, vacuum canister, ect. And I would actually add weight to the hatchback. keep adding weight till ur et peaks. this procedure is called weight transfer and works good on cars with stock suspension. you should also buy adjustable struts and shocks to dial in ur suspension. when you leave the finish line you want the front of the car to lift off the ground, the rear tires to plant hard and get traction and the body in the rear to raise pushing the axle down. All of this should happen at one time.
Re: how much weight to make a difference
that is all good. but this car is more of a street car than a track car. i just want to take out 100lbs 5minutes before i leave for the track. so i dont want to ditch power steering or AC. same thing with the suspension, i am gonna replace it, but go for a more streetable setup.
thanks though
thanks though
Re: how much weight to make a difference
ok, then I would drain the washer reservoir and remove anything you can from the front thats easy to remove and then replace after you race. I would take the passenger and back seats out. and I would add about 50 pounds to the hatchback. on a stock car with little mods adding weight to the rear will make your car faster.
