How long stock 10 bolt will last?

Just got my car back together and wanna run at the track maybe a total of 10 times this year at most...
Got a set of 26x10 et streets a friend said he would let me use. My question is will the stock 10 bolt hold up if I don't heat the tires real good and let it spin out of the hole a little?

3.42 gears, 373 lb tq, 395rwhp

thanks

IMO with your mods and ET streets I can't see how your not going to break the rear. Hope that I'm wrong. Good luck.

Depends on how you drive. Slip the clutch a bit and be easy on the shifts and you might be ok for awhile. Any kind of launch or power shift and I'd have a cell phone handy. M6 + ET streets is asking for it. M6 + DRs is a gamble. M6 + street tires will let you drive home.

I wouldn't waste a 10-bolt on purpose...but I'm poor .

Thanks, maybe I will just keep it on street tires and save for a 12bolt. Bad thing is already saving for a new bottom end
any est. what i'll run in the 1/4 mile? more then likely on street tires i can only get a 2.1 60' at most

thanks for the responses

later

With a 6 speed I don't even think drag radials would be that safe. Auto's on the other hand..................

Granted mine is an auto but it does hit tires pretty hard. Mine has lasted 2 full seasons. My 60' times are pretty consistantly in the mid 1.5's. My conv is an ATI treemaster 8" and flashes over 5k on launch. With good clutch technique I suspect you should be ok for a few passes. Same motor was in this before the auto went in and I had no trouble with mine even with the higher rpm launches.

On street tires you might run low 12s around 115-118ish depending on your raceweight, weather, etc...

I'm running DR's with the stock rear and M6 and everytime I run I figure it's a bit of a gamble, I would love a 12 bolt but it's just not in the budget right now. I wouldn't feel safe launching hard on ET streets with the M6 though, that is really asking for it My rear has held up fine so far with DR's and 4:10's, about 30 passes this year. If you are going to stick with the stock rear I would recommend getting the bearing cap stud kit along with a rear support cover like the TA that has the preload studs. It's not going to make it bulletproof by any means but it does help some.

Also I definitely think a stock rear has a lot better chance surviving hard launches if you have a stock or stock type clutch. I'm using SLP's, it's a stock disc and the LT4 PP. It grabs much better than stock but it's nowhere near as hard as some of the more serious clutches like the street twin. I would be a lot more worried about the shock the stock rear would take with a clutch like that.

Aslong as you don't plan on many hard launches you should last a good while. If you up the gears and start leaving harder... might as well up grade the rear.

people automatically look at the stock 10blts as weak. this is not so. they can be made to be just as strong as a 12. and if your on a budget like so many of us are, its the smart thing to do.

the situation you are encountering now is the reason i didnt get a M6 car. i know the first thing i would have done is put on some slicks and dumped the clutch at 5k+. the autos arent quite as hard on the rear.

i would get a girdle, good axles and a strong posi, and you should be fine.

I just had my Motive 4.11's put in my M6 TA and had the mechanic also put in a Ratech Solid Pinion Spacer. I also have a Summit Aluminum Support cover and a Zexel Torson Carrier. I run Nitto Drags with the SLP clutch kit. i am still fearful it will break sooner than later, so I am saving up for a 9 inch.

If anyone is still reading this. Exactly what happens most of the time when you "break the rearend", does it become totally useless, or do you just need a new ring/pinion. Always wondered this.

I'd say the most common thing is gear breakage. There are other things that can break such as the posi or the axles themselves. I've only had to replace 1 set of gears in 3 years. (knocks on wood)
