How do you guys launch?

Was wondering how the best way to take off in an automatic was?

just let off the brake and gas, or powerbrake just not enought to spin the tires? OD, D 2nd gear?

I put the car in D, hold the brakes, get on the gas just before it starts to spin tires, then quickly but steadily ease onto the gas.

A3 car, in 1st, footbrake to 1800, then quickly off brake and gas to the floor. Hoosier QTP tires 27X11.5-15

A4 Formula convert 2.73 gears, in 2nd footbrake to 1100, off brake and gas to the floor and yes I crossed the finish in second gear. Bfg or Nitto drag radial 255/50/16.

A4 C5 Vette, in 3rd, footbrake to 800, off brake and gas to the floor Hoosier drag radials 335\35\17 or Bfg drag radials 275\40\17.

I break until 1600rpms (or where evever it is before it spins the tires) then floor it.

so with a higher stall you do the same thing, you just rev it higher?

I remember reading one time something about bringing the revs up to around ~50% of the rated stall speed of the converter before launching (ie: ~800 for a stock ~1600 converter, or ~1600 RPM for a 3200 RPM stall, etc.).

I've had fairly good luck & consistancy both launching off idle, and pre-loading the drivetrain and launching anywhere from ~800 - 1200 RPM before (with A4 & 4.10's) but sometimes it depends on the track/conditions, and/or your tires ... if you can hook up, you can just mash it off idle, but sometimes you need to "ease" onto the throttle, and it can be easier to control if there isn't such a SUDDEN charge .

Regardless, it IS SAFER/EASIER on the diff to brake-stall / pre-load the drivetrain . That's the advantage A4 guys have, and M6 guys suffer with the factory 10-bolt .
