Hoosiers or MT Drags

I am looking for a full drag tire and was wondering what you guys think is better. I will be using a 26" tall slick on a 15" rim.

"Better" is often preference and is based on experience. What I know is that I have been able to be consistent and win races on Mickey Thompsons. Plus I like the people there a lot. The product hooks for me on almost any track and I get plenty of runs out of a set. As a matter of fact I have done well enough that they now supply me with tires so I am a bit biased at this point. Hopefully someone will chime in here with some different experience.

Re: Hoosiers or MT Drags

both are very sticky tires and worked great but the m/t's seem to last a bit longer and not to mention are a little cheaper too. i have about 17 passes on a set of 28x10.5 et drags that i bought 2 months ago spraying anywhere from a 300 to 350 shot, leaving off the trans brake and they have hooked everytime.

Re: Hoosiers or MT Drags

I've run Hoosier, Good Year and MT slicks. I currently have MT on the car just because they're available locally. Everything else needs to be brought in and when you need new tires NOW, you take what's on the shelf. Normally I pick the tire brand depending on what tire size I'm after. When I wanted a 28x9 tire, MT didn't carry one in exactly that size so I bought some Hoosiers because they had that size. I'm currently up to a 29.5x10.5 in a MT.

When I had a set of Hoosiers I liked them. I found that they were really soft. I managed to squeek one season out of them. Normally I can get 2 and a bit seasons out of a set of slicks.

Re: Hoosiers or MT Drags

Tires are available in many different sizes and typically in at least a couple of different compounds for each of the major brands. From my experience, if you are comparing like to like, it would be hard to show a difference.

I got about 5 passes in on a set of 26/10.5/16 MT Drag this summer. After they get a bit of heat in them they hook awesome. I had borrowed a set of Nitto 555's earlier this year and there was no comparison at the track.

Re: Hoosiers or MT Drags

Thanks guys I think I am going with some MT for next season. I need to get my 60 foot times down. Best I can cut is a 2.0 on street tires.

What's up Jeff, seeing you guy's launch is the reason I was looking at Hoosier's I figure any slick will do for 324 at the wheels. Hows the Turbo 400 project going?
