help? first time to track w/ new setup

hey guys, well last nite i went up to the grove for RSD nite. my car is 95 z28 w/ m6, w/ heads/cam 1.6 rr's, slp cai, mac headers and well slp lm. and im running suspension mods: lakewood lca's and hoosier dr's. and it was my first time ever racing at the strip but my times sucked majorly and im really upset,
1st: 15.09
w/ a 105mph trap and a 2.6 60ft. and i missed second gear

2nd: 14.80 w/ a 101.5 mph trap and a 2.93 60ft time... on the light i just lit them up and i cannot get traction, now i figured my car would atleast be running high 12's what can u suggest for me to do on my traction problem? shocks? new tires i dunno im desperate here.
any help is appreciated!

drag racing is like anything else. the more you practice the better you get. track prep makes a huge difference. tire pressue make a difference. your 60' sucks. do you have tuning for the cam. you may have the worst 60' times i've ever seen. hang in there, you will get much better.

Don't be so aggressive off the line! If your spinning let off the throttle. Practice launching your car at low rpms and then working your way up till you get it right.

Good Luck!

Whoa!? Easy on the launch man! Judging by your 1st run with a 105 mph trap, you've got the potential to be running low 13's at least (note my 13.4 @ 105 below).

On the night that I ran 13.4, I had .6 seconds variance in my times (from 14.1 --> 13.4) just based on how good or bad I launched, and all it took was .1 or .2 seconds off the 60' time to run ~.5 seconds faster in the 1/4.

I'd say tires would probably be helpful, but you've obviously gotta practise the launch a lot more too.

alrighty i know i suck at launching but im pretty sure these tires i have on it are good, i mean they are hoosier dr's but as far as building the suspension what should i do.. like springs, and im looking at these competition engeneering drag shocks, and a tourqe arm bushing. the run i trapped 105 i missed second gear so im pretty sure i can trap higher then that. i was running 18psi in the tires. and as far as the burnout should i do one? how can i keep the tires spinning w/ the 6 speed? linelock? im new at this so all sugestions are great help guys. im pissed cuz the guy who did the work on my car said it has the hp/tq to go low 12's w/ traction and i know im not getting traction but 14's ahh!
thanks guys.

If you got dough to throw around.. I'd say go w/ hal's all around they offer the best street/strip combo out there as you can adj. the stiffness.. but they are pricey.. If you like me then your poor.. So go w/ hal's in the front and the 36 buck Comp Eng. 3 ways' in the rear.. I ride on them everyday for the last 50K miles.. no problems other than a spinal injury. .J/k.. If you say your tires are good then i can't argue.. but your 60ft's tell us a different tune.. could your clutch be slipping? to make it feel like your spinning that bad? Your car should be easy mid 12's and probably low 12's w/ the right hook and air.. keep plugging away... driving on the street and racing at the track.. Two different animal's.. Goodluck.. and keep us posted.. Oh and as far as torque arm bushing's..Go for it cheap insurance..

im positive the clutch isnt slipping it grabs great, and im sure im not getting traction b/c it always kicks out on launch and smokes them, but comp eng i like, what bout agx in the front, i dont exactly have that much $$ im still in highschool and work at jiffy lube so not exactly rolling in the doe, but thanks for your help let me know what u think... i just said i thought the tires were good cuz they hook great on the street if u get em warm, but i am starting to wonder if nittos wouldnt be a better option or maybe bfg dr's.

the tires i have now are th e hoosier as303 or rs303, they are a slick with 2 parallel lines running through them... can be seen at http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....ireModel=R3S03

i just figured they were better than street tires but i picked them up for 35$ mounted on camaro rims so it was a steal..

Those tires are designed for road racing. They should hook better than street tires though. If you can find some Nitto or BFG drag radials for a cheap price I would try them. They will hook better than the road race tires you currently have. ET Streets would be better than the DR's, but then you have the 10-bolt to worry about.

WEll i guess for 35bux.. you can't beat that.. they're betterthan futura z's.. i don't know too much abou thte KYb's.. But i'm sure if you get some Rear C.E's you should help your weight transfer just a tad bit along w/ some nitto's(they last longer than BFG's) or bfg's(more consistant) you'll pull your times down.. where are you shifting? take your time getting familiar w/ your car and where it likes to run.. Concentrate on nailing all the gears at the targeted Rpm and such and such. your ET falls inthe hands of your 60ft.. Get your launch down and you can work along the way on shifting the gears in the right place.. practice makes perfect.. I feel sorry for that 10 bolt though.. good luck and have fun.. Thats what its all about.. Do the hokey pokey.. Ok thats enough outta me..

-comp eng. 3 way drag shocks (rear) speed inc 82.99

-Jegster subframe connectors (bolt in) Jeg's 179.99

-polyurethane tq arm bushing speed inc 13.99

-mt et streets either 26x11.5 or 26x10.5-16's 330.99-350 speedinc

how do these sound accordingly? and i was wondering about the size of the et streets and will they fit w/ stock rims and such, also about what shocks to run up in front?
thanks guys

How much experience \do you have driving?

The very first thing is to buy some decent tires for the track. Then try them out, when they actually do some track prep. Not on a usual street night when traction sucks.

That in itself may be enough to bget you into the loew 13's...

Change one thing at a time. Tires are the single most important thing to change.

Its traction that creates stress on the driveline. If you have a choice of ET Streets or Drag Radials, the ET Streets will hook much better at the track, but the Drag Radials you can just leave on and drive with... Take your pick.

Do the suspension stuff after you get the tires and try them out.
