Helmet ?
Going to the track for the first time tonight and I don't own a helmet so I'm probably screwed if they have no loaners. My quick question is where should I look for the proper helmet and how much should I expect to pay?
Sorry if this is a common question, I'm in a hurry and don't have time to search right now. Any quick responses will be much appreciated.

Sup dude!
If you're above 14.00 you don't need one. Hopefully you'll need one!
I picked one up online for 80 bucks. Closed face, brand new off ebay a while back. You could get one at that Yamaha shop off 1960, across from Dicount tire, but your best bet (cheapest) is to find one online.
If you gotta have one stop buy and I'll float you mine. Just return it to me tonight

Go to a decent motorcycle shop. Try them on. Fit is important and its your head it will protect. You might save a little mail order, but not much. I bought mine locally. I spent $125.00 five years ago. Get a Snell 2000 cert on it. You may as well. That way it will be valid to race for a long time. Otherwise get something you like. Don't cheap out on your head. Some altered driving up your butt could have a problem and your helmet may save you. Stuff happens at the track.
While I totally agree with that, let me add my criteria:
SN85 Approved (everything is SN95/2000 when I was buying)
Closed Face
Cheap
You won't find much cheaper than $80 plus shipping. Ideally we would all wear Simpson drag racing helmets, but not all of us can drop 3-400 on a helmet we use 3-5 times a year, if that.
If you don't want to skimp on a helmet, get a DRAG RACING helmet, not a motorcycle helmet. I'm led to believe there is a difference since a crash would obviously be completely different inside a car than a motorcycle, but no one has accused me of being smart!
Also, if you look at them, they 'look' different.
With all that in mind, if you need something to get you by get a motorcycle helmet. Personally I consider not going with the 3-400 'drag racing' helmet skimping out
.
IMO, they should enforce everyone to wear a helmet! I haven't calculated the physics, but maybe there is enough force created - when a car goes sub14.00 seconds over .25 mi - to do some serious damage upon impact
.
And with all the above... we're too late anyway!
So Lane, how'd ya do?
